It certainly doesn't have to mean "pro-liberty", that's an American thing, where conservatism equals liberty. In other parts of the world, it's different. "Hey, let's go take out Putin." No, we were always live and let live. It is Putin who started this war, by invading Ukraine to try to crush out Ukrainian independence. He did it with a pack of lies about "Nazis"and every word out of the Russian mouths since the war started has been another lie. Lie after lie after lie. If you're an American, you don't have any sympathy for the Russian lying, bullying and killing. You probably don't want a war with Russia, not with nuclear weapons, and the good news is that you don't have to have a war with Russia. The Ukrainians already have that war - Russia brought it to them. All you have to do is open up your arsenal and give the Ukrainians what you have. We have done that. It is amazing to see here, on this formerly conservative site, Americans bellyaching about helping Ukraine. What the fuck is WRONG with you? Seriously. OF COURSE we're going to help Ukraine beat Russia, and God willing, they will do so - they're doing a great job now, and things will only get better as time goes on. On what PRINCIPLE does an American conservative stand against the Ukraine? Not an American conservative principle, that's for damned sure. There was a time when I said "Let the Russians have Crimea", the people there even seemed to want it, and it wasn't worth a war. Putin pulled that off without a war. Like it? No. Willing to tolerate it? Yes, to avoid a war. But that's not the nature of Putin, is it? He got a little piece. He tried to take it all, by force, using lies and plebiscites, like before. But THIS time he got a war, a war that he is losing. Of course we help the Ukrainians defeat Russia, and take back the Crimea too. Sorry, Vlad, sorry Russians: there is a price to be paid for starting a war in Europe. That price is: you lose, and you lose what you gained before, without war. You're humiliated and disgraced, and you stand as a lesson for the ages of what NOT to do. You don't launch an air blitz on London, you don't invade Poland and France, and you don't brazenly lie to the world about some sort of "Greater Slavic Dom", attack a people in the Ukraine, and get away with it. There was always this question: how important was Lend Lease to the Soviet victory over Germany? At the time it was obvious, including to Stalin, Zhukov and Krushchev. But with time, Russian pride has caused the ridiculous argument to arrive that Russia did it alone. No, they didn't. And we see right now, the Ukraine has the Lend Lease, nobody pretends they could win without it, but with it, Russia cannot win. So yeah, the USSR defeated Germany BECAUSE of the United States, and Ukraine will defeat Russia BECAUSE OF the United States. If you still want to argue otherwise, watch and learn.
