JAMESTOWN – Goodrich Corp. officials on Monday announced the company will lay off about 60 employees at a manufacturing plant here.
“This is a business decision that had to be made,” said Laura Neel, marketing communications specialist with Goodrich Interiors. “We size employment needs in relation to business needs.”
Salaried and hourly employees were included in the layoffs, Neel said. Those cut will receive a severance package that includes benefits and outplacement assistance.
Neel said the positions eliminated represented redundancies in the Jamestown facility.
Goodrich laid off 35 Jamestown employees at the end of January 2009. And in October 22 people voluntarily left the facility, Neel said. No employees were rehired after last year’s layoff.
After the layoffs, Goodrich Corp. now employs about 460 employees in Jamestown.
“We won’t speculate on future employment actions,” she said.
Jack Clay, vice president of Goodrich Interiors’ Cargo Systems, said the economic slump in the commercial airline industry has affected its bottom line.
“At this point we have no alternative but to adjust our workforce to the current market situation,” Clay said a news release.
Goodrich’s cargo systems team designs and manufactures cargo systems for freight and passenger airplanes, according to the company.
