NEW YORK – A rare copy of the first comic book featuring Superman has sold for $1 million, smashing a record set just last year. The issue sold Monday morning is a 1938 edition of Action Comics No. 1, widely considered the Holy Grail of comic books. It features Superman lifting a car on its cover and originally cost 10 cents. It was sold by a private seller to a private buyer, neither of whom released their names. The sale was conducted by the auction site ComicConnect.com. The previous comic book record was set last year when $317,000 was paid for the same Action Comics No. 1 issue. This copy fetched a much higher price because it's in better condition.

I have actually had that comic in my hand...I was maybe 10 or 11 and a buddy's dad had it and several others...

Did he hold onto it? I guess he recognized it had some sort of value even back then.
When I was 10 or 11 my buddies dad had a different kind of magazine. And several others. Held one of those in one hand.

Ha...he had those too but he hung the pinups up in his garage where he had his parent's old Hudson that he refurbished... His dad flew in WWII and dropped the 82nd on D-Day...he was 23 years old...I'd have never known it unless I was told...
