Moscow took issue with Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights and Jerusalem just prior to its attack on Ukraine. “Russia doesn’t recognize Israel’s sovereignty over Golan Heights that are part of #Syria,” its deputy ambassador, Dmitry Polyanskiy, told the UN Security Council, which held a debate on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on Wednesday. The monthly Security Council meeting took place as the General Assembly debated the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.

Every Christian should be asking the question, "Are we in the Great Tribulation?" I am far from a biblical prophecy "expert", but I have been thinking the same thing. Are We Living in the Biblical End Times? What Scripture Says About Gog, Magog, and Russian Chaos “The Hebrew prophet Ezekiel wrote 2,500 years ago that in the ‘last days of history, Russia and Iran will form a military alliance to attack Israel from the north,” Rosenberg wrote. “Bible scholars refer to this eschatological conflict, described in Ezekiel 38–39, as the ‘War of Gog & Magog.'” What is Gog and Magog? There are undoubtedly many opinions surrounding Gog, Magog, and the intensely complex themes in these biblical texts. Magog is the land of ancient Anatolia which is today known as Turkey. Magog, Mesech and Tubal are three of the seven named sons of Japheth. Japheth was one of the three sons of Noah.
There are two nagging questions I have about this prophecy... 1. Why does God need to put hooks in the jaw of Gog (Ez.38:4)? 2. Why are Sheba, Dedan, the Merchants of Tarshish, and her young lions asking the question, "What are ya'll doing down there?" (Ez.38:13) The first question seems to indicate a lack of desire to go down and fight. Gog is reluctant. He needs hooks in his jaw to motivate him. Therefore, if Putin/Russia/Turkey/Iran are indeed Gog/Magog, can we detect that same reluctance? Just as there seems to be a worldwide reluctance to this contrived Ukraine conflict (nobody wants to fight wars right now). My second question regarding Sheba/Dedan/merchants of Tarshish is very similar. There's seems to be a worldwide confusion as to why Gog is attacking. The world is pretty much asking that very question about the Ukraine invasion. A Drudge headline quotes someone asking something to the effect "Why are you on our land?" If Putin is Gog, his invasion of Ukraine will escalate to an attack on Israel. Will the escalation have the same contrived feeling we are experiencing now?
If you are referring to the Prophet Joel of the Bible, no, Gog was not the son of that Joel, who was the son of Pethuel. Gog was the son of Joel, who was the son of Hanoch, Reuben's firstborn. Scholars allow that the Gog spoken of in Ezekiel 38,39 would be a "descendent" of Gog (the son of Joel, the son of Hanock).
The way I read that passage I referenced, it appears by the way it was written that that Joel had four sons. No intention to mislead.
I happened to stumble upon a map regarding the
whereabouts of Gog and Magog. Both can be
located in the upper Right area of the map. it
appears these two locations may be Russia and

Your mention of the 1 Chronicles passage was very helpful. It made me open some dusty old commentaries (actual books) and be reminded of the origin of Gog.
Thank you, watchman. However, I am inclined to believe you are correct about Gog not being the son of Joel as I originally interpreted. Here is another link that I believe may also shed some light on who Gog and Magog are today.

Prior to the statehood of Israel, it was all the land of Canaaan. Israel would be the Promised Land and Holy Land that God promised to the seed of Abraham. Finally, Jerusalem was formerly known as Jebus. See here:

You're welcome, Mudboy Slim. In my post #7, apparently the map was removed so I am posting the link here for you to reference. Just cut and paste this into the URL. When you access the image, look to the upper Right corner where you'll see Mongul and Ung. See below: 1687 Sanson - Rossi Map of Asia - Geographicus - Asia-rossi-1697.jpg Now, scripture mentions Gog as chief of Russia who occupied the land of biblical patriarch Magog. Magog, was the son of Japheth who was one of the sons of Noah. Alexander the Great built a wall known as the Derbent Pass in Georgia (Europe), to wall off Magog and Gog till the time was for them to be released. Most of the maps after the 1750's stopped placing patriarchs on these maps. For example, Tartaria, is now obsolete but it actually existed as a country before it was changed to Mongolia which is now China. Isn't history fascinating?
If you really look closer, at that map I referenced, you will see that Gog and Magog sit at 145 degree Latitude and 65 degree Longitude. Take note that when it was made in 1637, that was 335 years ago. Since then, earth and its continents have moved a bit including polar shifting causing changes in the Longitude and latitude readings. Finally, here is a link that actually confirms the location of Gog.
Thank you for another interesting link...based on your understanding, do you believe Putin has the gravitas to be Gog, Prince of Russia? He comes off as sort of a Napoleonic character, like a Mel Brooks' Hollywood villain, perhaps even more than a little bit sociopathic...and his cadre of Yesmen surrounding him puts all of Russia at the mercy of a self-aggrandizing madman. Putin's personality has gone madman according to many news agencies. His personality has drastically changed as he is furious that it is taking longer to take over Ukraine's capital (Kyiv). He wants to put in place the former U.S.S.R. by toppling over nations. It may be very possible that he may be the Gog, Prince of Russia. I am now hearing that he wants to attack Sweden and Finland. Furthermore, he wants to attack either by cyber or missle the U.S. China is his ally and they will cooperate with him.
