(Crain's) — Redbox Automated Retail LLC is closing its call center in Downers Grove, a move that will eliminate 200 jobs by mid-summer.
The Oakbrook Terrace-based DVD rental company said it began outsourcing its call center operations on Monday and plans to transition the work to the new service provider over the next few months.
“After considering a number of options, it was determined that using a third party to manage our customer service operations was the best business decision for the company,” Redbox said in a statement.
A spokesman declined to name the third-party provider and would only say that the company has operations in Canada and Texas.
Redbox is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bellevue, Wash.-based Coinstar Inc.
