Congress poll is Capitol hell Voters' support for incumbents hits historic low By MAGGIE HABERMAN Just when you thought Congress couldn't reach a new low, it did. Only a third of US voters think their Congress members have earned the right to get sent back next year -- a record-low number, a poll released yesterday shows. Thirty-four percent of voters queried think members of the House and the Senate ought to be re-elected -- while an astonishing 63 percent were in favor of throwing the bums out, the new CNN poll showed. Forty-five percent of the voters say they will back a Democrat in their congressional district, and 47 percent say they will go for the Republican -- whoever that may be in either case. When it comes just to the House of Representatives, just 51 percent of people believe the member for their district deserves to get re-elected, while 44 percent are giving their reps a thumbs-down, according to the survey. The numbers show no major party getting a strong advantage. But Holland said that fact "may hurt the Democrats more because there are more Democratic incumbents." He added: "It's a change from 2006, when voters concentrated their anger at GOP members of Congress." On the question of whether current members of the House ought to be re-elected, the numbers are lower than in 1994, when Bill Clinton's presidency suffered mightily as Republicans took control of Congress in a 54-seat swing. Right now, the Democrats hold a 255-178 edge in the House. The Republicans are pressing to find challengers for almost any Democrat in marginal districts, given new impetus after Scott Brown's Senate victory for the GOP in Massachusetts. President Obama isn't doing much to boost his party, either -- with his approval rating at 49 percent. Just 44 percent think he deserves to be re-elected. The survey was taken from Friday through Monday of 1,023 people and had a 3-percentage- point margin of error. Several members of Congress have expressed frustration over the partisan gridlock. Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid have led us to the brink of another Great Depression, utterly gutted what little remaining faith in the political system existed. This can't be denied, and you can't blame it on Bush. They'be been in charge (Democrats) for almost four years now in Congress. In each of those years the deficits have risen, doubling in the last year from 700 billion to 1.4 TRILLION. What did we get? Higher taxation, record foreclosures, double digit unemployment, trade deficits that are both frightening and almost incomprehensible. Homelessness is rampant. Job creation has ceased to exist. Banks are not lending because they know the coming real estate bubble burst is within plain view. Are you better off today than you were one year ago? Simple question that Pelosi, Reid and Owe-Bama don't want you to even THINK about, let alone ask yourself and then answer.

Yes, very much. We have hired back those we laid off, restored the salary cuts we made in January of 2009, and my stock portfolio is way up compared to a year ago.

Maybe you missed that part? Nope, didn't miss it. I know that most of the GOP incumbents are rather pleased with their in state or in distict polling numbers. But the bottom line remains the same. Democrats control the House, Democrats control the Senate, and both are at their lowest approval ratings in United States History on their watch. No spinning is viable on this...you know it, and thats why you want to talk about the GOP as if they have a real 'problem' heading into November. They don't. They will pick up seats in both the House and the Senate. You know it as well as I do, GO65.

My stock portfolio has also made a killing in the last 12 months. Wish I could say we were in a position to bring back those we laid off, but the business simply isn't there. And it won't be, due to our being a 'baseline' tied to hiring nationally as you know. The only thing saving my companies is we've cut executive salaries six times in 18 months, planned very well for 'bad times' (IE built up mid six figure cash rainy day funds) and paid off all of our debt we possibly could over the past 36 months. We also focused on paying off this office building I'm sitting in as I post each day during business hours, in case we needed to fall back on the property value, which skyrocketed since we bought it in late 1999. Being in such a rural area kept us from taking a loss on our commercial real estate holdings here. We took a 'paper hit' but thats no big deal unless you borrowed against it, which we didn't.
