How can you possibly call this a “hoax?” Hoax Definition: “A humorous or malicious deception.” There is certainty you pandemic-deniers are not on the same page with reality. You refuse to wear a face mask or publicly disregard social distancing rules. Some deniers even raise their indignation and anger to an unnecessarily dramatic level of outrage. And we constantly hear front and center that it is your rights. Oftentimes, your dramas suggest such a grim confidence and certainty, as if it is firmly grounded in some reassuring conspiracy theory. Other times your denial may suggest instead a concealed distress with a desperation masquerading as total disbelief. When such a strong grip on your beliefs becomes excessive and overdetermined, it can easily suggest a lurking fear of losing one's grip. So, one might wonder. Might that tight grip be just what is holding you pandemic-deniers together mentally – thinking that you feel level-headed?
