I would much rather listen to an old radio guy back in the 50s and 60s, when an announcer calling the games would get the away play-by-play info by teletype. They would have crowd noise SFX on cartridge, just like an 8 track but only one channel (2 for stereo.) The play-by-play guy would read the description from the ticker tape, and call the games using the cart for crowd noise and something like a wooden mallet striking a wood block to simulate the sound of the bat hitting the ball. A real good example of this technique can be found in the movie "Bull Durham - Teddy Garland is the announcer.
