The stepmother of an Atlanta police officer who was charged with murder this week was fired from her job.

The company said in a statement that “it is imperative to maintain a safe environment for all employees.”

Equity earlier Thursday released a lengthy statement saying the company is guided by the principle: “Do the right thing, always.”

Garrett Rolfe, an Atlanta officer, was with another cop on June 12 responding to a call of a man sleeping in a car in a Wendy’s drive-through.

After testing the man for sobriety for about 40 minutes, an altercation broke out when the man, Rayshard Brooks, resisted arrest.MO<

Brooks wrestled with the officers, stole one of their Tasers, fired it at Rolfe, and, when running away, turned around and pointed it again at Rolfe.

The officer fired his gun, hitting Brooks twice. The shots proved fatal.

Rolfe was fired. Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard charged Rolfe with felony murder, which can be punished by the death penalty, on Wednesday.

Rolfe’s lawyer said he shouldn’t have been charged, arguing his client heard a sound he thought was a gunshot just before he fired his gun.

“Fearing for his safety, and the safety of the civilians around him, Officer Rolfe dropped his Taser and fired his service weapon at the only portion of Mr. Brooks that presented to him—Mr. Brooks’s back,” his lawyer said in a statement.

Rolfe stopped firing when Brooks fell to the ground. He then called emergency medical services and started CPR when Brooks’s pulse stopped.

Rolfe and Devin Brosnan, the other officer involved in the situation, both turned themselves in on Thursday. Brosnan was allowed to post bond. Rolfe was being held without bond.

Officer Rolfe is a sacrificial lamb led to slaughter by a leftist, PC District Attorney who is catering tho the whims of the BLM mob.

The cops gave him every chance to comply, but Brooks grabbed a taser and fired at the cops.

But according to the DA, a taser is not a lethal device. Only when it is pointed at a cop apparently.

No, she made her workmates uncomfortable because she refused to denounce her stepson. That's why she was fired.

Employment at will dogma strikes again. Employers can fire employees for any reason or no reason, as long as the reason isn't illegal (i.e.: race, gender, ethnic background, religion, disability, whistleblower retaliation, et al).

Employers can (and have) successfully fired people in recent years for smoking, being Democrat, clothing style, family conflict, illness and personal dislike.

Many would like to change our "employment at will" law to "for cause" employment, meaning that bosses could not fire anyone without a legally defensible reason, but until they do, Republicans can fire (or refuse to hire) Democrats for being Democrat, Democrats can fire (or refuse to hire) Republicans for being Republican, and bosses can fire people because of their associations (e.g.: being related to a policeman).

Of course, generally Republicans and Democrats are not so stupid as to apply a political litmus test to their employees - they'd lose half their talent if they did. And unless a trend develops in which the relatives of the police are being fired left and right, we can probably put this one down to an overreaction by some ridiculous boss.

The woman could sue, but she will have a tough time getting past summary judgment.
