LF: Buffalo Police Seriously Injure 75-Year-Old Man During Protest

A 75-year-old man was hospitalized Thursday evening after two Buffalo police officers knocked him down during a protest over the police killing of George Floyd. Those two officers have been suspended and an internal investigation is underway.

Video shows the man approaching a line of Buffalo Police officers enforcing the city's 8 p.m. curfew. He exchanges words with two of the officers, who yell at him to get back, and then one officer shoves him. The man falls backward and his head slams onto the pavement. Numerous officers walk by him as blood pools around his head.

The Buffalo Police Department initially issued a press release saying that "one protester was injured when he tripped and fell."

Later Thursday night, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown tweeted that he was "deeply disturbed by the video, as was Buffalo Police Commissioner Byron Lockwood."

"After days of peaceful protests and several meetings between myself, Police leadership and members of the community, tonight's event is disheartening," Brown added. "I hope to continue to build on the progress we have achieved as we work together to address racial injustice and inequity in the City of Buffalo. My thoughts are with the victim tonight."

Brown wrote that the man is "in stable but serious condition" at a local hospital.

Lockwood suspended the two main officers involved without pay and has ordered an investigation into the incident.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo wrote in a tweet that the incident was "wholly unjustified and utterly disgraceful."

The man is not the first elderly victim of police violence during the protests over the killing of George Floyd. Widely shared video showed police in Salt Lake City shoving an elderly man with a cane to the ground:

Setting aside the possibility of Covid-19 infection, what's a 75-year-old man doing out there in the middle of a riot? That's as stupid as the parents who bring their little kids.

Watch the video bootlicker - the elderly man was on the sidewalk attempting to return one of the officer’s helmets he had found. (You can see him holding the helmet in the video at the start.) The officers then walked up to him and shoved him to the ground.

The impact of the elderly man’s head was so hard that he immediately began bleeding from the ears and was knocked unconscious.

You don't give a rat's ass who the police assault - black, white, elderly - as long as the cops keep this shit up we can count on whitey to cheer for the thugs. The badged thugs that is.

...a case out of Buffalo, New York is getting a lot of attention due to the unnecessary and disturbing nature of how it unfolded. An elderly man was shoved down and two cops were suspended as a result. Now, the entire Buffalo Police Department Emergency Response Team has resigned in support of those two cops.

In total, 57 officers threw a collective temper tantrum, for their right to attack innocent elderly men with impunity.

The cops did nothing wrong in this instance. The idiot came up on them. They just pushed him away.

Old men sometimes are a little disoriented, and do not realize a danger they are in.

Their sense of balance is not what it used to be either but this guy did not appear to be disoriented - he was coherent enough to film the incident.

Perhaps he was not able to handle a few things at the same time, and was not a match for a strong young man. Certainly he did not plan to end up in a hospital.

What is the definition of a police state? It is where people fear police more than they fear criminals.

Well, it was before, from now on he will fear them. And many seniors who have seen that.
