President Trump's controversial foray to St. John's Church on Monday is generating widespread criticism, after police and National Guard troops physically cleared out demonstrators, using tear gas, to allow a photo opportunity outside the church. The bishop who oversees St. John's is among the critics. "He used violent means to ask to be escorted across the park into the courtyard of the church," Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington tells NPR's Morning Edition. "He held up his Bible after speaking [an] inflammatory militarized approach to the wounds of our nation." "He did not pray," the bishop continued. "He did not offer a word of balm or condolence to those who are grieving. He did not seek to unify the country, but rather he used our symbols and our sacred space as a way to reinforce a message that is antithetical to everything that the person of Jesus, whom we follow, and the gospel texts that we strive to emulate ... represent." Every president since James Madison has visited St. John's Church, which opened in 1816 and sits across the park from the White House. Despite that longstanding relationship, Budde says her diocese had no warning of Monday's visit.

He didn't even open the bible. He reminds me of Slick Willie.
I am by no means a fan or follower of any of these leftist LBGTQ preachers (any churches with womyn pastors is automatically suspect.) What message was Trump trying to get across? The only words he said were "This is a bible." I see it as virtue signalling to the so-called religious right. In his press conference prior he stated: "I will fight to protect you — I am your president of law and order and an ally of all peaceful protesters," Nowhere did he quote any scripture before he staged the photo-op. He reminds me of Slick Willie. I thought that as well.
Government is in the last resort the employment of armed men, of policemen, gendarmes, soldiers, prison guards, and hangmen. I'm with you on that. My Catholic priest is married. What are the odds? My other preacher is married with 3 kids and another on the way. I get along well with the kids. I go along and get along.
Latest word: #1) The report of tear gas / flash bang grenades is fake news. Police stated neither were used to secure the street and/or church. #2) Police did not take their action for Trump's benefit, but did it on their own accord as part of their normal operations at this time.

The essential feature of government is the enforcement of its decrees by beating, killing, and imprisoning.
Those who are asking for more government interference are asking ultimately for more compulsion and less freedom.
