Re: “California’s Criminal Cops” (Page A1, Nov. 11): I have read your articles on “criminal cops” and I must say they were much needed. The job of a cop is getting harder and harder, but that doesn’t excuse some of the incidents that we read of abuse of police duties. Finding the right people for that job needs to be changed; it seems a few bad apples have really changed people’s outlook of the profession. It takes a certain type of person to be a good police officer. What we must remember, though, is that a few officers don’t completely represent the world of public safety officers. After these needed series, I firmly hope you put the same time into showing what the majority of police officers do and how they benefit the world. Poster Comment: Latest information shows there are 686,665 full-time law enforcement officers in the US. A recent study finds there are around 1,100 police officers arrested each year. That is an average of 3 each day. This means that only 0.15 percent of all cops are charged with a crime. The latest data base shows there were a total of 10,350,950 people arrested in the US in 2018. The census for 2018 shows the population of the US to 327,200,000. This indicates that 3.16 percent of the US population was arrested. While there are only an average of 3 bad cops charged each day, there are however multiple websites dully dedicated to locating those bad cop stories and editorializing about them. There are as many as 20 different websites doing this each day. It is therefore most unfortunate that you will seldom see stories about the remaining 686,663 full-time law enforcement officers in the US who preform admirably to all lawful and social standards because there are not 20 different websites devoted specifically to this purpose While we see up to 20 websites circulating stories about 0.15 percent bad cops. We see not one of those ever posting any of the following locally carried only stories that never receive the national attention that bad cops get. [Note: The follow is a search result for “Pastors.” When the same search is conducted for Clergy” – the cases increases. And when the same search is conducted for “Priests” the cases greatly increase.]

Government is in the last resort the employment of armed men, of policemen, gendarmes, soldiers, prison guards, and hangmen. One of the reasons the cop arrest figures are so low is the Blue Code of Silence. Cops control who is arrested, and they go out of their way to not arrest their own.
The essential feature of government is the enforcement of its decrees by beating, killing, and imprisoning.
Those who are asking for more government interference are asking ultimately for more compulsion and less freedom.
