Rush just announced at conclusion of his show today that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer, and will be gone a couple days.
Prayers up for El Rushbo...said he felt no symptoms yet described the lung cancer as "advanced". As for not inhaling cigars, that is not really true, imho...MUD
As for not inhaling cigars, that is not really true, imho
The number of smokers has been cut in half in the last 20 years, yet the number of new lung cancers (per 100,000 per year) has hardly budged in that same period.
Number of smokers cut in half? Does that include vaping?
Anyways, I have been Googling regarding survival rates and it depends on how early they catch it and whether it remains local to the lungs vs. mestastisizing into other areas of the body. If still local, 5year survival rates around 60%...if it has spread, 5year survival rates drop to under 10%. Once again, prayers out to Rush...he has the fight of his life on his hands...MUD
Survival rates have vastly improved, but that's due to early detection and advanced treatment.
You need to look at the number of new lung cancer cases per year. That number (per 100,000 population) has remained fairly flat. With half the people no longer smoking, you would expect that number to decrease.
If there was a connection between lung cancer and smoking.
