SWAT Team Responds to Cap Gun at Wash. School

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) -- The initial 911 report from the Vancouver, Wash., elementary school was alarming: shots fired at a school playground. That had police and SWAT officers scrambling Tuesday morning - only to find the weapon was a bright orange cap gun.

Police and school officials say a second-grade boy at Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School brought the gun and apparently pointed it at two 6-year-olds and fired it, discharging smoke.

The two students told a playground supervisor that another student had fired a gun at them - and the response took off from there. Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp says, "When you have that type of a call, there's no waiting."

A SWAT sweep and school evacuation began, but officials say students were back in class a half-hour later.

District spokeswoman Kris Sork says school officials met with the boy and his parents to determine possible punishment.

LOL..they probably would in one of those freaking boot-camps that are supposed to show kids the errors of their ways, but I think what will happen is, they'll scare the bejeepvers out him, then drug him till he's a walking chunk of controllable 'stupid'!

Cap guns and squirt/water guns were part of growing up when I was a kid.

I have raised one g-son, and helping to raise 2 more boys, and a g-daughter, and they all have, or are, playing with water guns (it's fun), and they're all learning safety rules for guns, and to HIT what they aim at with the first shot!!!

I had an M-16/Rocket Launcher. The rockets [3] were made of a soft plastic but in the winter [which is when I got it...Christmas] those suckers got hard and hurt...

We'd take turns with it...guys would hide around the corner of a house and try to run the 20 yards to the garage without getting nailed...

When I used it as a regular machine gun that sucker made SOME noise...

Cap guns

Who the fuck wanted to take the time to load the caps into the gun [I had a Colt .45 copy cap gun, btw] when you could just take the caps and explode them all at once with a hammer...?

Remember the bow and arrows with the suction cup tips? We'd play cowboys and Indians in the woods and since I was always the Indian that was my weapon of choice. Boy, those were fun times.

We used those red rolled strips of paper with tiny amounts of gunpowder...I don't remember what they were called...they had 50 or 100 shots per roll. Those are what we used.

Yes...that is what we used as well...you could make them into firecrackers too...

You'd take a pin or needle and pierce the gunpowder dot with the pin and slide it down and then fold the roll and pierce the next gunpowder dot and so forth untill you had like a compact accordian of cap roll on the pin...you'd do this with two or three rolls...you'd then squeeze them as tight as you could on the pin while taping scotch tape around then to keep it compact...you'd take it off the pin...put a match over the tape at the top so that the match head was over a dot and then wrap some more tape around it so it's nice and snug...light the match and then BOOOM...those sucker could make a loud noise...

There were also HALCO roll caps...I remember the name because I had a cousin named Hal [Harold Hugo Schnidicker III - he changed his name in adulthood to Hal Snyder] and I called him Halco...

29 cents...those were the good old days. I think you need a quarter for those gumball machines these days.

IIRC, they came in boxes of rolls of threes and fives...the threes were, I think, a nickle a box or three boxes for 12 cents [plus a penny tax]...the fives were 7 cents a box or four for a quarter [plus 2 penny tax]...
