UK Election: Exit Poll Suggests Historic Tory Majority, Hard-Left Labour Collapse

By Oliver JJ Lane
Breitbart
12 Dec 2019

A poll of voters taken during election day has suggested the centre-right, Brexit-promising Conservative party of Boris Johnson has achieved a historic victory over Jeremy Corbyn’s increasingly hard-left Labour party.

The exit poll puts the Conservatives on 368 seats and Labour on 191, with the United Kingdom looking forward to an evening and morning of results confirming — or correcting — the prediction as given.

The projected figure was broadcast by the British state media company and others at 2200 GMT as polling stations closed and, if correct, would put present Prime Minister Boris Johnson in an extremely strong position to deliver on his manifesto promises of Brexit, as well as domestic and foreign policy.

A majority of 368, if the exit poll is correct, is obviously nothing like any election result the United Kingdom has seen in the past decade. The last time any UK party exceeded that number was the then left-centrist Labour party in its 1997 landslide under europhile globalist Tony Blair, who won 418 seats.

The last Tory win of such a magnitude was Margaret Thatcher in 1983, when she won 397 seats, a majority of 144 seats.

this is a good result for common sense, and if someone wants Scotland to drift off bring in the bulldozers, rebuild Hadrian's Wall, and repatriate all those Scottish invaders. The IQ of both countries will be higher

I have my doubts that Scotland will opt to split from the UK and join the EU. It may be interesting to monitor developments along the Ireland/Northern Ireland border. The EU wanted a hard border if BREXIT. And who is going to implement that? I doubt there is any interest in Northern Ireland or the Republic for that.

A few more nations may follow the UK's lead.

Northern Ireland is a special case because of agreements to end the troubles which have nothing to do with the EU. The UK should be in a position to control its borders where ever they may be formed and it would be impractical not to have a hard border with Scotland if it were to leave and join the EU.

I think Northern Ireland should reunify with Eire, hard luck for the religious nutcases. Alternatively, they could Join breakaway Scotland, and create their Hibernian paradise as it was centuries ago

The UK has never cared about having a hard border with the Republic of Ireland, why should it care about Scotland?

The EU would care. The EU cares about Northern Ireland, but probably not enough to do anything about it.

I think Northern Ireland should reunify with Eire, hard luck for the religious nutcases.

The Catholics/Republicans/Anti-Unionists are a decided minority in Northern Ireland to the Protestants/Unionists. A referendum would result in a call to Remain in the UK in all liklihood. Northern Ireland is not likely to leave the UK any time soon.

The divide is really political about Union and Anti-Union, not religion or how to end the Lord's prayer.

I can't picture Northern Ireland leaving the UK and joining up with Scotland. The centuries old "troubles" in Northern Ireland goes back to the Irish Catholics, when they were almost all Catholic, and the Scots Presbyterians who were sent in to rule over them.

you se this is where religion gets in the way of common sense, just because some battles were won centuries ago doesn't mean some realities can prevail. I'm sure there was a time when UK had no intention of granting the Irish their freedom, but............... The unionists may not want to stay if Scotland leaves.Scots and Irish are a troublesome lot , UK would be better off without them

you se[e] this is where religion gets in the way of common sense, just because some battles were won centuries ago doesn't mean some realities can prevail.

But the Battle of the Bogside was not fought centuries ago. That occurred in August 1969. It's occurrence was sparked by the annual march of the Apprentice Boys, celebrating events of 1688. Their path deliberately passed through the Protestant Unionist Bogside area of Derry. It was similar to the events of July in Dungiven, but in the city of Derry on a larger scale. The resulting riot left 10 dead and 151 wounded by gunfire. British soldiers were sent in temporarily to restore order. That temporary restoration of order lasted 38 years. In August of 1971, internment was officially declared, meaning the policy of imprisoning suspected members of the IRA or other similar groups, without trial, for indefinite detention.

I'm sure there was a time when UK had no intention of granting the Irish their freedom, but............... The unionists may not want to stay if Scotland leaves.Scots and Irish are a troublesome lot , UK would be better off without them

Come the day of the Apprentices, the Union Jacks were flying up and down the Unionist neighborhood streets, with 24-hour guards. The curbs were painted in patriotic colors. The Unionists/Prods were practically more British than the British themselves.

The Unionists are not going anywhere. The probability of the Unionist majority in Northern Ireland voting for independence from the UK must be near zero. As part of the UK, they are safe from the Republic of Ireland.

The Irish sought and obtained independence because they found the English to be a troublesome lot. Many Scots find the English to be a troublesome lot.

Scotland has its own parliament, seperate from that of the UK, and its own legal system. It functions autonomously on domestic issues.

Northern Ireland had a form of devolved government from 1922 until 1972, when direct rule was resumed. Since 1998, Northern Ireland semi-sort of officially has a devolved government headed by an Executive Committee, pursuant to the Good Friday Agreement. It dissolved in fussing and feuding in January 2017 and the resignation of the First Deputy Minister, and the Executive Committee has not sat since.

England invaded Scotland and Ireland and overstayed their welcome. Scotland or Northern Ireland are wonderful places to stay and live for a while.

I suspect I was just a tad further north than you were, north of the highlands, nowhere near England. I did get to visit Dunoon and Macrahanish.
