Yeah... I suspect I may have suffered a mini-stroke early last week... Without going into excessive detail: Noticeable loss of strength/mobility/balance/dexterity pulling myself up out of my wheelchair & into the bathroom where I can reach the grab bar & transfer bench that I use to get to the toilet & shower. (I'm an ak left leg amputee with a pacemaker in my chest) Anyway, on Thanksgiving I lost my grip and plopped my fat butt onto the floor trying to get back into my chair... Only injured my pride, having to ask my younger brother to lift me off the floor and back into the chair... Been taking it easy ever since.... fortunately not much appetite, been using an empty juice jug for a urinal... Finally (out of desperation) made it back into the bathroom this morning to use the toilet & take a shower... Made it back to my chair without falling... It was a struggle compared to before, but I made it.... Other symptoms: voice seems more "weary" and strained... My brother thinks I'm very slightly slurring my words..... But my BP remains under control (with meds) and very low (usually lower than 120 over 70) and I'm already on blood thinners, anti-cholesterol and other heart meds that supposedly reduce your risk of stroke too... So I don't know what else they can do for me after the fact
Anyway, enough whining about my health.... I've had a good life and no regrets... Just wanted to post this old Gene Autry tune, before I lose my ability to communicate altogether...
I ain't pushing up daisies yet, but no doubt the end will be coming sooner than later...
Turns out it was a tiny, little brain tumor they removed from behind my left ear.... They think it spread from my lungs (2 packs/day for almost 30 years will do that to you.) But I gotta admit, even though I knew better, I enjoyed ever single puff & wouldn't change a thing despite the consequences. It was entirely MY choice & I can't blame anybody else.
Anyway, I start radiation & chemo treatments sometime within the next 2 weeks... They're doing a lot of tests right now to better plan the details... The good news is, cancer treatment is vastly improved over what they were doing just 15~20 years ago... And MD Anderson is probably the best Cancer Clinic on the face of the planet... so I'm confident that they know what they're doing... So with a little luck, I should be around another 4 or 5 years... plenty of time to get my affairs in order... Don't want a pile of unpaid medical expenses haunting my relatives after I'm gone... But I ain't gone yet, and that's a good thing...
