Purgatory is another lie from the Catholic Church. It is false and it disrespects our Lord Jesus Christ. What purgatory is basically saying is that the New Testament is false, Jesus Christ who is God in the flesh is not enough to purify sins, Jesus was a liar, Jesus basically came for no reason, etc. Of all the false teachings of Catholicism this is probably the most foolish. Justification is by faith in the blood of Christ alone. Christ died for all sins. Throughout Scripture we learn it’s either you go to Heaven or hell. You don’t need to suffer for a period of time before you’re able to get into Heaven. If someone believes this they will go to hell because they are saying I’m not saved by Christ alone. Jesus your death was not enough to atone for my sins. Please do not believe in this dangerous, deceitful, man-made doctrine. Everything was finished on the cross.

For a long time, the Catholic church sold what were called "indulgences". Like a get-out-of-jail-free card for those in purgatory. Basically the families of those in purgatory paid money to the church to ...reduce the "temporal punishment for sin" Luther put the kibosh on that practice when he led the Reformation. I don't know if they still do that or not.
Government is in the last resort the employment of armed men, of policemen, gendarmes, soldiers, prison guards, and hangmen. Just because someone says that they believe in Christ does NOT mean that they're going to heaven. Actions have consequences. If you screw up bad enough you can end up in hell, even if you claim to be a Christian. REPENT!

Yes the Catholic Church, as distinct from the Apostles, never did seem to get a handle on it is finished
No guarantee there of going to heaven. It says that NO OTHER CREATURE can separate us from God. But one can separate themselves from God by sinning. Catholics refer to this serious sin, as a mortal sin. Unless one repents and asks God's forgiveness, they will go to the lake of fire if they die in that state. If it's just a small (venal) sin like calling the Pope a jerk, you can do some time in purgatory and then go to heaven.

What kind of peace can you have if you are always wondering "Did I mortally sin this time? What if I don't get this straightened out before I die?" It gets back to what I've always noticed...Catholics living in a sense of fear (and not the good kind). Dancing Wahhabi Evangelicals such as myself enjoy perfect assurance that God has saved us to the uttermost (that's why we dance :-) You were gone for a long time. Glad to see you again.
What is the basis for that belief? Jesus didn't say that. It isn't in the Bible anywhere else. Vic can't defend this with his red letter destroy the gospel beliefs.

Purgatory is not only a lie but also the belief that when we die if we believed in Christ we go straight to heaven. The truth of this is that when we die, we go to a deep sleep until that day of Judgment arrives. Then, the martyrs and saints go first, then the dead in their sleep go next, and finally those who are still alive go last.

It's not a myth...I have seen churches split over the color of the carpet. I hope there was a good message from the preacher and that you got to sing your favorite hymn :-0

Those who are asking for more government interference are asking ultimately for more compulsion and less freedom.
