Fox News anchor Shepard Smith, a frequent target of President Trump’s attacks, is stepping down, the network confirmed Friday. “Recently I asked the company to allow me to leave FOX News and begin a new chapter. After requesting that I stay, they graciously obliged. The opportunities afforded this guy from small town Mississippi have been many,” Smith said in a statement. “It’s been an honor and a privilege to report the news each day to our loyal audience in context and with perspective, without fear or favor. I’ve worked with the most talented, dedicated and focused professionals I know and I’m proud to have anchored their work each day—I will deeply miss them.” Smith was among Fox’s first hires upon launching in 1996 and he became the network’s signature daytime newsman, often acting as the anchor to enter other broadcasts to helm coverage of breaking news like the 2015 Paris attacks and the 2014 riots in Ferguson, Missouri. “Even in our currently polarized nation, it’s my hope that the facts will win the day,” Smith said as he signed off his final broadcast. “That the truth will always matter, that journalism and journalists will thrive.” In a statement, Jay Wallace, president and executive editor of Fox News Media, said: “Shep is one of the premier newscasters of his generation and his extraordinary body of work is among the finest journalism in the industry.” He added: “While this day is especially difficult as his former producer, we respect his decision and are deeply grateful for his immense contributions to the entire network.” Throughout the Trump era, Smith took on a “rogue” role at the network as it became overtly pro-Trump in its commentary and news coverage. In many instances, as documented by The Daily Beast, Smith even fact-checked the conspiratorial musings of his own colleagues, resulting in not-so-subtle sparring with right-wing Fox News stars like Sean Hannity. Earlier this month, Smith clashed with Tucker Carlson, criticizing the Fox News primetime host for failing to defend their colleague Judge Andrew Napolitano when he was criticized by a guest on Carlson’s show. Vanity Fair’s Gabe Sherman reported several days later that Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott and network president Jay Wallace conveyed to Smith that if he did not stop attacking Carlson, he would be off the network. The network publicly denied that claim, however. In addition to his role as the network’s consummate newsman and fact-checker, Smith cultivated a reputation for delivering unfiltered, decidedly un-Fox-like on-air banter. “We are America! We do not fucking torture!” he once shouted during a 2009 digital show.

I think FNC has taken more hits from viewers over the constant stream of anti-Trump and anti-GOP bias from Smith on a daily basis. He didn't bother to try to hide it. He was as Lefty as anything you see on MSNBC or CNN. And so were his guests. Smith was also, after O'Reilly, the highest-paid employee at FNC. I never did understand how that happened. I think the recent conflicts with Tucker and the evening crew, along with his high salary, probably doomed him. If they offered him a contract renewal at all, it was probably for less money. He was a liability for the network financially and he was hurting their bottom line. Ailes died in May so I think it's about that time for Smith's last contract to be renegotiated. Or not. Not sure what his boyfriend will be doing. He's about 15 years younger, came to FNC as a summer intern and stayed. And became Smith's main squeeze on the down low despite the boyfriend being about 30 and Smith being 55. You have to wonder if Smith has enough money to keep the younger guy interested. 25 years is a lot. And what the hell do they talk about?

Seeking to quell the internecine strife before it carried into a third day, Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott and president Jay Wallace communicated to Smith this morning to stop attacking Carlson, a person briefed on the conversation said. “They said if he does it again, he’s off the air,” the source said. (Fox News spokesperson Irena Briganti denied that management had any direct conversation with Smith). ...

That video speaks volumes. : ) The Twitter Friends Club was full of grief, and more conspiracy theories about Barr forcing Shep Smith's firing. Let's remember Shep as he was: As a preening car-chase game-show host who mistook himself for a newsman.
Would have loved to be a fly on the wall for that little tete-a-tete! I can't remember which hurricane, perhaps Florence? Early days, before he had his own show. They sent Shep to cover the hurricane. He suddenly yelled, "GET ME OUT OF HERE! GET ME OUT OF HERE!" LOL The camera showed he was standing in 1/2" of water. It was hysterical. Thereafter, I could not see him without laughing my tail off. I haven't watched him in years. Apparently others feel the same way as he is #26 on Fox Corp. ratings.
What! And get his nails dirty?!? Wish he would take Wallace with him. And Nap. What the heck happened to him? Since DJT, he has been frothing at the mouth. Rumor has it that he asked to be a Federal Judge and Trump ignored him. Reading commentary around the web, lawyers pick apart his "legal" commentary. They say he doesn't know what he is talking about. Ditto Cavuto! His hate is viseral.

He always had his own show on Fox. Shep and Brit Hume were FNC's first stars when they started in the late Nineties. Shep dressed to the nines, had a really nice studio, tried to do a video version of a radio shock jock show. He had a good camera crew and it worked well. I think he was FNC's top show until O'Reilly took off. You're thinking of Katrina, I think. Shep and Geraldo were weeping and wailing on a series of abandoned overpasses, telling viewers that people were eating each other inside the Superdome. They even cried. Eventually, I think the network sent a helicopter in to take them out of there so they could be sedated under medical supervision. Here's Shep on Hurricane Matthew: "You're all going to die!" Over and over.
Shep made his announcement at the end of his show, effective immediately. Cavuto looked a little shook up in the clip I saw. He had that look on his face like, "Uh-oh, am I the next NeverTrumper who'll be gone by the end of the day, escorted off the premises by security guards?" Yep, Shep and Cavuto were a sassy pair of bitches when they thought no one at FNC could touch them. I expect Cavuto will be praising Trump's China deal to high heaven, starting Monday. Shep's departure will likely transform Cavuto's coverage.

I've read before that it's more often, "No, I was top last night." You also read references to gay bottoms always greatly outnumbering gay tops. The reason this doesn't occur to you is probably because you don't think like most homos. You can't really conceive the idea that some guys prefer to bottom and never want to top. Of course, this kind of thing simply doesn't occur in hetero relationships so there's no real reason why you would know about it.
