Title: REPORT: Trump To Kill House-Passed Universal Background Check Bill

President Trump is reportedly planning on rejecting a bill that would force universal background checks as a requirement for gun ownership.

The bill has been passed by the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives and Nancy Pelosi said nothing else will “get the job done,” as if background checks are not already performed on people who purchase guns from dealers (they are from gun dealers, but usually not sales of guns between individuals.)

There's a lot of speculation that real "job" Pelosi and anti-gun House Dems want to get done with their "universal background check" requirement is to use that as a preface for establishing a nation gun registry to determine where all the guns are at in America, and who owns them, setting the stage for gun confiscation.

After all, you can't take guns if you don't know who has them!

Politico has more on President Trump's planned rejection of the universal background check bill:

President Donald Trump will not consider the House-passed universal background checks bill as part of his proposed gun package, according to a source familiar with the conversation on guns.

Trump’s position on the House-passed bill is not exactly a surprise. The White House issued a veto threat against the bill in February.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) have called on Trump repeatedly to bring up the House-passed universal background checks bill. Over the weekend, Pelosi and Schumer issued a statement following a phone call with Trump that anything other than the House-passed bill “will not get the job done.”

Schumer reiterated his calls Monday for the White House to back the House proposal.

“We’re certainly willing to discuss the finer points of legislation with our Republican colleagues, but we made one thing clear to the president — the effectiveness of gun safety measures will be severely compromised if we allow the loopholes in our background check system to remain intact,” Schumer said on the Senate floor.

But Senate Majority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.) said Monday that Schumer and Pelosi were merely trying to score political points.

“The things that they are proposing just aren’t realistic and they know that and so it’s designed more to talk to their political base and it’s a lot more about that than I think an actual solution,” Thune said.

Reuters also said the following about House Dems' push for President Trump to put the bill on the floor:

Top Democrats in Congress told Republican President Donald Trump on Sunday that any gun control legislation that falls short of universal background checks for gun sales “will not get the job done.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said they spoke to Trump by phone on Sunday morning, which marked 200 days since the Democratic House passed legislation to expand background checks to all gun purchases.

In the aftermath of a series of mass shootings in August that killed more than 30 people, Trump has been discussing potential legislation with lawmakers in both parties. He said on Wednesday that progress was being made on gun legislation, adding that many areas were under discussion, including background checks.

The Republican-controlled Senate has yet to take up the House bill. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters last week: Until the White House gives us some indication of what the president is willing to sign we are waiting to see what it looks like.”

He added: “These horrendous shootings - in my opinion -deserve a response, I hope we can get something that can actually become the law of the United States of America.”

Pelosi and Schumer said in a joint statement after the phone call with Trump: “This morning, we made it clear to the President that any proposal he endorses that does not include the House-passed universal background checks legislation will not get the job done, as dangerous loopholes will still exist and people who shouldn’t have guns will still have access.”

Good! Trump knows that if he betrays the gun nuts, he loses the election. So he won't.

McConnell also indicated he wasn't going to endanger the re-elections of Snowe in Maine or Gardner in Colorado if he didn't have confidence that Trump would sign a law. McConnell has made it clear that he won't take any tough Senate votes for his incumbents unless Trump makes it clear what he will or won't sign into law.

I think this ends in a week or so with the usual partisan recriminations on the failure to pass legislation. They'll blame each other for hyperpartisanship (and Trump) and then try to fundraise off that for the 2020 election cycle.

Gun nuts? Undoubtedly, there are a few. Most gun owners understand that the 2A is there to protect the Republic from tyrants. All would-be tyrants know that they have to take our guns to destroy the USA. Not happening.

Yup: Gun Nuts, Border Bots, Religious Nuts and Ayn Randians.

As opposed to the Racists, Communists and Feminists, Sex Freaks and Assorted Yobs Y Yobs Yobs on the other side.

Politicians spew boob bait for Bubbas...and it works.

But some issues, like guns, are so very sensitive to a particular obsessed electorate that a betrayal will mean a loss. Trump has to know that.
