Title: ‘It Could Happen to Anyone’: Family of Man Fatally Shot by Off-Duty LAPD Officer at Corona Costco Speaks Out

The family members of a man fatally shot by an off-duty Los Angeles police officer at a Corona Costco publicly spoke out Monday for the first time since the June 14 incident.

Russell and Paola French, who were also shot, and their other son, Kevin French, pushed for the release of the store surveillance video that captured the shooting that killed 32-year-old Kenneth French, who had schizophrenia.

Kenneth, Paola and Russell French appear in a photo released by Juris Productions on Aug. 26, 2019.

Kenneth French struck Salvador Sanchez from behind as the officer fed his toddler son some samples, Sanchez's attorney previously said.

French's parents said they informed Sanchez, who identified himself as an officer, that their son had an intellectual disability.

“After hearing Officer [Salvador] Sanchez identify himself as a police officer, I begged and told him not to shoot,” Russell French said. “I said, ‘We have no guns, and my son is sick.’ He still shot. I thought people don’t do that.”

The couple sustained gunshot wounds to the back, indicating that that "they were not facing in Officer Sanchez’ direction at the time they were shot," a statement from the firm representing the family said.

Kenneth French also had his back to the officer when he was struck multiple times, family attorney Dale Galipo said.

“Not only did we lose our first-born son, my husband and I sustained injuries that will impact our lives forever,” Paola French said in tears.

A Riverside Superior Court judge has blocked the release of surveillance video that captured the incident, LAPD announced earlier in August.

In addition to that footage, a shopper recorded video of the ordeal, Galipo said. In that clip, which could not be released to the public yet, the officer's wife is heard asking Sanchez what he had done, saying he shot an entire family, the lawyer claimed.

“It could happen to anyone,” Kenneth French’s younger brother, Kevin, said of the shooting.

The brother also expressed outrage that authorities let Sanchez leave the scene without detaining him. The officer also returned to the store the next day and was allowed to watch the surveillance video before making his statement to authorities, Kevin French said.

Spokesman Joshua Rubenstein said the LAPD did not plan to release a statement following the family's news conference on Monday. Sanchez remained "assigned home" amid the ongoing investigation, Rubenstein said.

    Poster Comment:

Sanchez remained "assigned home" amid the ongoing investigation, Rubenstein said.

If Sanchez was just an average citizen whod shot and killed a mentally disabled man, shooting his parents in the process, do you think he would be sitting comfortably in his home.

Do you think he'd be allowed to go back to the "scene of the crime" to view the video before talking to the cops?.

In posting these articles, this is how you show that hatred is an uncontrollable form of active, ongoing hostility that uses up a significant emotional energy.

With your extreme hatred, you spend much of your time fixating on your anger and contempt.

Feelings of intense emotional dislike develop for many reasons.

What cased your insatiable appetite for hatred to develop?

Oh, so you don't agree that this cop got special treatment after going on a shooting spree, injuring a family and killing their son and then is allowed to stay in his home instead of going to jail like anyone else would?

Government is in the last resort the employment of armed men, of policemen, gendarmes, soldiers, prison guards, and hangmen.
The essential feature of government is the enforcement of its decrees by beating, killing, and imprisoning.
Those who are asking for more government interference are asking ultimately for more compulsion and less freedom.

What caused your submissive fealty to cops, even when they kill innocent citizens?

Assholes like the cop in this story and the system that protects them from accountability and grants them special treatment, and copsuckers like you who worship thugs like the murderer in this article.

    Your turn bootlicker.

And be sure to answer why you think nthis cop deserves to be living at home instead of spending his time awaiting trial in jail just like the average citizen would.

Oh, more Paul bashing from you?

    Talk about obsessive!

    Ron Paul Derangement Syndrome

At one and the same time that he loudly and proudly affirms “limited government,” “liberty,” “individualism,” “fiscal sanity,” “the Constitution,” and “the Founders,” the Paulophobe will just as loudly and unabashedly repudiate Ron Paul. Although the latter has proven to be, by far, both more committed and more consistently committed to these values than any political actor of our generation — although, that is, he is an incomparable champion of the very ideals that the Paulophobe claims to cherish — the Paulophobe insists upon treating Ron Paul as an enemy.

This in and of itself is sufficient to convict the Paulophobe of invincible irrationality. Yet this unreason runs deeply, manifesting itself in other ways.

Assholes like the cop in this story …

… and copsuckers like you who worship thugs like the murderer in this article.

Nah, I am asking about the “root cause” – while in answering, you are merely expressing “reactions.” Reactions are simply feelings experienced in response to a situation or event.

By you admitting to some of the symptoms that seem to play a role in your hatred, you are helping me to maybe understand your excessive hate.

Clinical psychologist Dana Harron has said that the things people hate about others are the things that they fear within themselves.

    Think about that …

The phenomena is known as “projection” – a term coined by Freud to describe your tendency to reject what you don’t like about yourself.

Psychologist Bernard Golden, in his book A mind-body approach to anger management believes that:

"Acts of hate are attempts to distract oneself from feelings such as helplessness, powerlessness, injustice, inadequacy and shame. Hate is grounded in some sense of perceived threat. It is an attitude that can give rise to hostility and aggression toward individuals or groups. Like much of anger, it is a reaction to and distraction from some form of inner pain. The individual consumed by hate may believe that the only way to regain some sense of power over his or her pain is to preemptively strike out at others. In this context, each moment of hate is a temporary reprieve from inner suffering."

Deckard, I am of course no psychologist and I am never intending to act like one. With that in mind, I can definitely see that you are obviously letting your anger hijack your life.

Your kneejerk reaction to anger is waking each morning to quickly cherry-pick the internet and search for incidents involving police officers posted on cop- hating and anti-government sites to come and repost on LF.

While some anger may be normal, it like any emotion can convey the message telling you that some situations are upsetting to you since you feel they are unjust.

The are tips and techniques that can help you get anger under control and express your feelings in healthier ways.

I have more on this to share with you, but I must leave for a while.

    Salute,
    Gatlin

This should be an interesting and informative case when the video comes out. I'm thinking of the thread I posted where the guy was pushed to the ground in the parking lot then shot his attacker. The jury didn't buy self- defense.

Not seeing the store video, this case appears even shakier.

I neither agree nor do I disagree.

You show me a transcript of all the information that was presented to the judge and let me see the video, then and only then will I submit a valued and highly considered opinion.

I do not pass judgment on anything simply be reading a news story.

    Yeah - that's pretty shaky.

How can you say it is “pretty shaky” [whatever this is supposed to me] without knowing the reason the judge won’t allow anyone to see it?

Furthermore, why do you always have such biased predisposed opinions?

I think this case is ambiguous.

It sounds like this wasn't the first time the schizo son had struck someone. If so, the parents should not have taken him out in public.

OTOH, unless he was really assaulting an officer, he shouldn't have gotten shot. He should have been taken into custody. Very few schizos are actually dangerous or capable of any real physical violence against a trained cop.

Nice paid vacation for the schizo-shooting cop. Full-time pay and benefits at home for months and all he had to do was shoot a helpless disorganized schizo on a pretext.

If Sanchez was a real cop, he could have subdued this schizo in about 2 seconds flat. But he'd have to be a man to do that, not a despicable pussy with a badge.
