A Fox News guest has suggested that San Francisco redirect their efforts towards people on the streets who have just 'shot up with marijuana'.David Avella was a guest on Fox panel show Outnumbered, where four women have one male guest on for every show, talking about how he felt that San Francisco should redirect its efforts to police drug users on the streets instead of changing language used around offenders.
..the focus ought to be on a society that follows the law, not allowing people to defecate in the streets. Not allowing individuals to lay on the street having just shot up with marijuana ...
He was quickly corrected by one of the co-hosts, who said 'heroin.'
Heroin, and having a needle sticking out of them. We ought to be focused on solving crimes.
Avella, who is chairman of GOPAC, a business that trains republican candidates, expressed his distaste for the proposals in San Francisco to change the language used around offenders.
The city's Board of Supervisors has implemented a new 'person first' approach to their language when talking about perpetrators. Examples include referring to a convicted felon as a “formerly incarcerated person,” a “justice-involved” or a “returning resident.”
Parolees will become a “person on parole,” or “person under supervision.” And with regards to this Fox News gaff, drug addicts and substance abusers will now be referred to as “a person with a history of substance use.”
Supervisor for the changes Matt Haney said this was because:
We don’t want people to be forever labelled for the worst things that they have done.
Which seems like a good and nice thing to do, so obviously Fox News hated it.
