Universal Pictures announced that it will not release The Hunt, a satirical movie about hunting other humans for fun. The announcement comes in light of the mass shootings in Texas and Ohio, along with criticism from President Donald Trump. The film was previously set to hit theaters Sept. 27. “While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film, ” a spokesperson for Universal said in a statement. “We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.” Insiders told Variety that the studio came to the decision alongside “The Hunt” filmmakers. They also said it was a tough decision for the company, but studio leadership ultimately determined that the film could wait. Previously, Universal put a temporary halt on marketing for the film following a series of mass shootings. In the film’s few marketing materials that did air, stars such as Betty Gilpin and Ike Barinholtz could be seen brandishing assault rifles and pistols while taking on a group of would-be hunters. Other cast members included Hilary Swank, Emma Roberts, Ethan Suplee and Justin Hartley. Jason Blum is producing for Blumhouse Productions alongside Damon Lindelof under his White Rabbit flag, and Craig Zobel directed. The Hunt, which was described as satire, told the story of a group of “elites” who hunt other people known as “deplorables,” ostensibly referring to the nickname famously given to Trump’s supporters during the 2016 campaign. Clinton called Trump’s supporters a “basket of deplorables” on the 2016 campaign trail, saying they espoused “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic” views. The film’s cancellation comes after President Trump slammed Hollywood in a barrage of tweets on Friday, referring to The Hunt as a movie about attacking conservatives. ….to inflame and cause chaos. I am constantly amazed that the Progressives attack Conservatives non-stop and promote violence, but claim that Trump's rhetoric is to blame for every ill in the entire world. Did you know that Trump is racist, incites violence in our nation? Yet Progressives can promote a movie hunting down Trump supporters, but somehow that isn't promoting violence. Their leaders can say, "get in their faces" and "harrass them in restaurants" but that isn't promoting violence. Rally attendees can be beaten in the streets with bike locks and nothing is done about it, but that is all Trump's fault...somehow.
I hope they eat it big time but don't worry Disney or Netflix will buy it!!!! Can you imagine the caterwauling coming from elites if it had been Trump supports hunting the left(which at this moment is really far far left mentally ill people)?!?!?!

Can you imagine the panicked calls around the studio and with other Hollyweird big studio execs and the studio money men? There must have been some massive internal negative reaction to releasing this movie as planned if they dropped it like a hot potato this way. You'd normally expect them to defy Trump and try to use that to promote the film.
So it'll be out on the torrents by next week?

I wanted to see the movie. Well I did.
I thought it looked like a comedy with the Lefty elite manhunters getting their comeuppance from the MAGA targets. But it was a low budget affair so I'm not sure how good it would have been. But cheer up. They've only shelved it for now. It may be finished and released in a year or two.
Yeah - I wanted to see if the "deplorables" fought back and eventually kill some of the perpetrators.. But it was a low budget affair so I'm not sure how good it would have been. From the trailer, it looked pretty well made, There were/are some fairly big Hollywood actors, but maybe they were all lefties and completely on-board with the premise and worked for free. Hillary Swank is one for instance. The country singer Sturgill Simpson plays the role of "Kid Rock". I wonder if that character is as bad-ass as the real one - or maybe it is the real one portrayed in the film?
Government is in the last resort the employment of armed men, of policemen, gendarmes, soldiers, prison guards, and hangmen. A bunch of Southern deplorables were going to die along the way but clearly the heroine was going to confront and finally kill the Queen Bitch of the liberal elite hunters. It seemed a lot less political to me than most current movies actually. Seemed like a harmless little violent comedy, like Danny Trejo in his two Machete movies with a third one yet to come: Machete Kills Again in Space. I hate these endless sequels of movies but I like the idea of a Machete Cinematic Universe franchise. Very uplifting for the young people but very violent.
Maybe Trump should have arranged for a screening of the movie before condemning it. Sounds like a happy ending to me.
Government is in the last resort the employment of armed men, of policemen, gendarmes, soldiers, prison guards, and hangmen. I think Trump is satisfied with the outcome. He named it and framed it. Whether Trump's view of the movie is entirely accurate isn't the key thing. Trump scared the Hollyweird libs obviously and he defended his own supporters (deplorables). Politically, Trump played this one just about right.
Think Hollywood will make a movie about MAGA-hat-wearing hunters armed with AR- 15's going after illegals? It should be OK if the illegals get their comeuppance at the end, right?
They had Machete with rightwing Texas pols hunting illegals though not as a sport so much. That was before Trump though. And this movie is not gone at all. It was due for release on 9/27/19. So all the primary and secondary footage was already done and, as is common, they used it to make the trailers we've seen. The only things left to finish this movie was maybe some sound editing and special effects and the promotional marketing campaign. This movie is on the shelf but it is ready to go on short notice. Hollyweird will monetize it but at a time of its choosing. And Trump weighing in on it virtually guarantees it will eventually be released.

Those who are asking for more government interference are asking ultimately for more compulsion and less freedom.
