I am considering shutting this place down and updating the place to some modern software. THoughts.

I wish we could do some advertising to get more right wingers on board. this site is much better than Free Republic; it's easier to use and you don't have to post thinking you're walking on eggshells.

Just a consideration. No concrete plans. It would be nice to have something more modern that might attract more users over time. Just a thought that may never happen.
I was recently looking around at forum software. There aren't that many around these days. You could look at using Wordpress and a forum plug-in for it. bbPress is a well-known plug-in. Yet you see people complain on their forum about various malfunctions. OTOH, it has had 300K+ installations so sooner or later somebody is going to find some problems with it. I really hate those spying bastards at Disqus. So I don't even consider them. Most forums lack a feature here at LF: the Latest Comments page with ability to search out replies to your threads or posts. Most forums just don't seem to offer something like that that is direct. Other forums don't allow you to address other users as directly as LF does. Features like these foster discussion. You probably want to look around at various forum solutions and see if they can be readily adapted to work the way LF does. Very few seem to work the way LF and FR do.
Pinguinite is capable of producing just about any style of pages you want using CSS styling and the built-in page templates. Sometimes it isn't just modern features. Look at AceOfSpades, running Movable Type 2.4 which is like 15 years old. Has a rather terrible commenting system but they have plenty of posts on every thread but their site hosts post a half-dozen articles a day, no articles are posted by users. Unfortunately, you can't really follow discussions over there the way you can here at LF. It's not a forum, just comments on a thread. And they beg for money there (and get it). Have you seen a site that you like the looks and features of? Maybe you want comments here to look like they do on some other forum site. Maybe you want a pop-over sidebar that only appears when you hover your mouse over it. Or a pop-up main menu that shrinks itself when you scroll down the page so it stays out of the way mostly. Try to get an idea for what you want your site to look like, to feel like, what features you think are essential, what features you most want to upgrade or give a facelift to.
Yeah... For instance, right now I can't remember why I put Mudboy Slim on my bozo filter.... so if I was interested in figuring that out, that search function might come in handy... But I DO recall Mud's parody songs being absolutely godawful, so there's no sense in wondering what was the straw that broke the camel's back... Given a choice between Mudboy & byeltsin, I'll gladly hold my nose and stick with boris anyday of the week... even though I still have no idea what the old banjo boy is saying.
I second this suggestion. Maybe you won’t end up with a site that posts only anti cop, pro drug articles.

I deleted my FaceBook account, over a year ago. Facebook can fuck themselves... So shut your 3rd world jungle taco flaps. As far as my suggestion to Stone, that offer is expired... but if he wants other political opinions besides the kook 6%... he might wanna consider it, because new software ain’t gonna do shit for new posters. All Stone needs to do is make his own LF page... they will not only join his page but join this.
I don't want you in a defensive posture. You need NEVER explain yourself to me or anyone. In fact, I enjoy your typical offensive posture on any subject in the Universe. But expanding the user database for LF commentary? It isn't going to happen. We are stuck with a lackluster chit-chat channel.
I have noticed that as well. I don't post here often but what I have seen is that there isn't a lot of room for alternative viewpoints, and as a result the site suffers from being too "one-dimensional". I've posted articles on Orwellian topics, i.e mass surveillance, as well as articles that most of the members here consider to be "kook" topics such as the 9/11 False Flag, chemtrails and anything that questions the official narrative of events. It seems that such topics are automatically met with derision by many of those who post here. In my opinion, the software is not the problem, rather it is the lack of diversity of topics and also the vehement hatred and lack of respect shown by some of the more close-minded posters.
But vehement hatred and lack of respect are our best qualities!

You declined the offer...if you remember. I don't recall declining that offer. I don't like Facebook, never had an account there. I don't believe I would have rejected that offer. I believe you are mistaken. Maybe you just knew i didn't like facebook.
Facebook. You are welcome to post what you want. I e never had a problem with you. I rarely delete articles. I do notice when you post here and I usually take a look at what you have to say.
A thumbs up or down would be nice. Looking different than craigslist would be good.

Our olfactory system – our sense of smell – can alert us to potential dangers such as spoiled food, rot, decay and harmful molds. Your “forum olfactory sense” is obviously in great working order since you have been alerted to the “garbage” posted on your forum. IF you don’t want to get rid of the garbage – there are still ways to neutralize the bad smell. I will leave you with that …

One of the two things I really like about the place I spend most of my time at lately, is the hilarious emojis that the place provides. Also, posting pictures there is the easiest of any site I’ve ever seen. I asked you via site mail. It’s been deleted. It was back when I was active on FB... and even co- hosted a page. That page only had 13K followers, but had I advertised, a few hundred would have set up an account, and posted. You have nothing to lose, getting the unknown to join from FB...you can always ban them if they turn out to be disruptive assholes. The conservative poster, NEEDS places to post, without liberal discrimination. That includes kook Paultard harassment.
Sometimes, you are brain-dead in your comments. Stone doesn't want to spend his time on this planet banning posters because, "nothing to lose" Where do you get this made-up malarkey?
