Bible Study Title: “Did He Not Make Them One?” The definition of marriage, given to us by our Creator, is one man for one woman for life. Scripture is abundantly clear on that, beginning in Genesis (Genesis 1:27 and 2:24) and confirmed by Jesus Christ in Matthew 19 and Mark 10. But our culture has largely abandoned Gods definition of marriage, throwing out man and womanallowing for marriage between two men or two women . . . but why two? But theres no such thing as gay marriage, as marriage is a God-ordained institution. In a culture that has by and large abandoned Gods Word and redefined marriage, why should they stop at just two? Now thats not the first time Ive declared this. Ive been saying for years that, as our culture drifts further from Gods Word as the authority, were going to see the culture begin to redefine marriage yet again. Were going to see people pushing to normalize and celebrate all kinds of sinful behaviors, including polygamy, polyamory, pedophilia, and much more. Because when theres no absolute authority, everyone does whats right in their own eyes (Judges 21:25). Bottom line: if people dont build their thinking on Gods Word, then the foundation they use is mans fallible word, and so ultimately anything goes. So thats whats been happening in western culture. Groups are attempting to normalize these sinful behaviors. A recent article reported on a task force being formed by the American Psychological Association to study consensual non-monogamythat describes people who commit adultery with the consent of their spouse. And the goal isnt merely to study these individuals. Its to promote awareness and inclusivity about consensual non-monogamy and diverse expressions of intimate relationships. They state, Finding love and/or sexual intimacy is a central part of most peoples life experience. However, the ability to engage in desired intimacy without social and medical stigmatization is not a liberty for all. This task force seeks to address the needs of people who practice consensual non-monogamy, including their intersecting marginalized identities. Marginalized identities, a lack of liberty, stigmatizationdo those terms sound familiar? This is the same argument that was used to normalize homosexual behavior and, eventually, legalize gay marriage. Gay marriage wasnt the goal; it was merely a benchmark along the way that would help allow any other sexual sin imaginable. But liberty is not a license for immorality or sexual perversion. Our liberties are given to us by Godsomething Americas founding documents recognizeand he has not given us the liberty to live however we want. We are to live in accordance with Gods Word. The APA refers to polyamorous (among other) relationships as ethical non- monogamous relationships. Why ethical? Well, because in the secular sexual ethic, the only ethic is consentas long as consent was involved, its fine. But the APA has no foundation for morality, except its own arbitrary opinion. What makes consensual adultery acceptable but not rape? Simply their opinion, nothing else. You see, if the APA changes its opinion, rape might no longer be unethical, in their view. Its all a matter of what the culture is prepared to tolerateand the more secular society becomes, the more tolerant of any behavior (except, that is, the absolutes of Christian morality) are tolerated. At the same time they become more intolerant of Christianity. But we dont get to determine morality. Gods Word determines morality, whether we believe it or not, and God will judge each of us. Just as Gods Word is clear on his design for marriage, it is clear on homosexual behavior (Romans 1:2628), adultery (Exodus 20:14; Hebrews 13:4), and all sexual sin:
