LA SERENA, Chile (AP) — Tens of thousands of tourists and locals gaped skyward Tuesday as a total eclipse of the sun darkened the heavens over Chile and Argentina.

Tourists from around the world gathered to witness the cosmic spectacle, which began in the morning as the moon crossed in front of the sun and cast a shadow that passed over a tiny uninhabited atoll in the South Pacific and headed to South America. Chile and Argentina were the only inhabited places where the total eclipse could be seen.

The eclipse made its first landfall in Chile at 3:22 p.m. (1922 GMT) in La Serena, a city of some 200,000 people where the arrival of more than 300,000 visitors forced the local water company to increase output and service gas stations to store extra fuel. Police and health services were also reinforced.

“Oh! Oh! Oh!” thousands of spectators shouted as they jumped and danced without taking their eyes off the sky. After a brief moment of silence, the yelling returned as the sun’s rays began reaching Earth again.

A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon is at a close enough point to the Earth and simultaneously crosses the path of the sun, causing it to cast a shadow over large parts of Earth’s surface, with the US getting the best view this time around.

All perfectly reasonable if you believe that the Earth, moon and sun are round.

However, some conspiracy theorists believe that the Earth is flat and is part of a big international governmental cover up.

If the Earth is flat, then it would not orbit the sun and the moon would not orbit our planet, both would just appear in our skies, essentially orbiting us.

So how do ‘Flat Earthers’, as they are known, explain the impending solar eclipse?

The conspiracy theorists have taken to Reddit to detail how they believe the natural phenomenon occurs.

Some believe the sun and the moon are simply holograms projected in the sky, to convince the masses that we are part of the universe which we are led to believe we are in.

Sometimes, these holograms need updates, flat earthers say.

A person by the username Hoeskioeh wrote on Reddit: “Maintenance downtime of the sun/moon hologram, new firmware upgrade.”

Another explanation is that the moon is actually much larger than the sun – in reality the sun’s diameter is 400 times larger than the moon’s – and it crosses in front of it to turn the day black.

Reddit user Anschauung wrote: “The sun is very small and much closer to Earth than ‘roundies’ claim it to be.

“It's only a few hundred meters wide and about five miles above our disc.

“The moon is much, much larger and a tiny little bit closer. When the enormous moon passes just beneath the tiny sun it completely obscures its light.”

The real "conspiracy" has been catapulted by the "secret society" PTB. TO HIDE GOD. And the TRUTH.

The Sun and Moon are both the same exact size. Close. Located WITHIN The Firmament....AND...revolve around the EARTH. As has been common knowledge until only 500 years ago when the PTB began phasing out Scriptural Truth because the printing press had just started distributing Bibles.

I'll take it from your usual belligerent tone about the topic that you believe NASA has been faking solar eclipses.

I have studied and examined this entire subject of our physical realm for months now. It has been the equivalent of attending months of class and lectures.

You on the otherhand have watched and studied...HOW MUCH beyond a cursory look at Flat Earth and Lunar/Solar theories?

Tsk, tsk, Counselor...You needed 11 YouTube videos to refute "Flat Earth"?? That seems a bit like over-kill for a supposed "absurd theory."

Btw, for every YouTube video supporting Flat Earth theory, there are about 100 ANTI-"Flat Earth" videos. For the logical, critical thinker, that kind of panicky censorship and rigging of YT algorithms tells us Truth of all kinds present a clear and present danger to the lies of the PTB.

As to the videos you've linked to...I'd know that strident snark and obnoxiousness anywhere by the author of these video; It's author is Pat Condell who is preaching to the choir. The disrespectful tone and use of cartoons don't help his case either. He is actually quite good at taking apart both Islam and addressing EU tyranny...

The main problem here is in letting *him* do your thinking for you AND making bogus cases. That's unusual intellectual laziness on your part; You're usually very thorough.

Unfortunately, your countless hours spent in citing definitive case law and usual outstanding attention to detail are NOT applying with respect to NASA, Flat Earth Theory, and *presumed* "Settled Science." How much time have you spent examining the spectrum of related issues?

FYI, Pat Condell has a dog in the Flat Earth fight: He is a rabid and militant ATHEIST. That also means his "religion" in THIS physical world is "Scientism."

Condell is also especially ignorant and intellectually lazy in this case, relying on established institutional lies as "Settled Science" (The same "Settled Science claims "Evolution" and "Climate Change" while isolating specific claims by specific individuals and Alinsky-ing them. Not 3 seconds into every one of his videos was he hoping to dazzle his cultists with ridicule and fallacies. He uses:

As antidotes to the usual cultist indoctrination we have ALL been subject to since childhood, I have been sharing posting videos that help explain theories, observational science, and Biblical support of Flat Earth, NASA/"Outer Space" hoaxing, and man's inability to access "space" beyond low orbit.

In order to actually "debate" this issue, one must first acquaint themselves with the cases for evidence and theories being made. As far as I can see, no one here at this forum has done so other than for very cursory examinations from one respectful poster.

Counselor, if I had to choose just one video for you to watch in a court room along with a jury, it would be this. If you watch it in its entirety I'd be happy to engage in some polite dialogue.
