In a tweet on Friday, President Trump announced that “additional large-scale sanctions” by the US Treasury that had been added to already existing set of sanctions – were now off the table. It was announced today by the U.S. Treasury that additional large scale Sanctions would be added to those already existing Sanctions on North Korea. It is not clear yet why the President has seemingly undercut his National Security Adviser John Bolton, but it’s possible we could be witnessing a serious fissure in the internal workings of the White House power structure.
Prior to this, Bolton took to Twitter to crow about the harsh new sanctions on North Korea had described the treasury sanctions at the time as “important” and that “the maritime industry must do more to stop North Korea’s illicit shipping practices.” After that announcement, North Korea suddenly withdrew from the inter-Korean liaison office located at the North Korean border city of Kaesong. The office is a recent diplomacy initiative which allows officials from North and South Korea to communicate on a regularly.
Trump then seemed to re-establish his authority over the situation, and quite possibly in a desperate bid to rescue a deteriorating peace deal with Pyongyang:
It is believed that the sanctions in question refer to the Treasury Department’s move to blacklist two China-based shipping companies for reportedly violating sanctions against North Korea.
Thus far, Pyongyang has made no comment on Washington’s sudden reverse pivot on the matter.
Antiwar.com reports… Just one day after the Treasury Department announced new North Korea sanctions, centered on a pair of Chinese shipping companies, President Trump announced in a Tweet that he is ordering the withdrawal of those same sanctions.
The new sanctions were meant to be related to shipping companies buying North Korean coal in violation of US sanctions. The administration has yet to offer any clarity on why Trump overruled the Treasury Department on that matter.
A lot of the media is generally hostile to pursuing diplomacy with North Korea, and was quick to try to chalk this up as weakness on Trump’s part, and to suggest that his decision must have been arbitrary and not planned at all.
Yet that too is just a guess, because the administration is not very transparent on its decision-making process or its thinking behind such moves. It certainly is worth asking if this represents a split between Trump and the Treasury Department, however, or some broader disagreement into US-North Korea policy.

Good-Cop/Bad-Cop. Offering a good will carrot is better than nothing...or CFR puppet Bolton's quest for WW3 and/or blood. An aside...why is the TREASURY DEPT the policy enforcer on NK sanctions??
Yes, IF we knew we'd get someone sane instead. The CFR-wing of the GOPe generally calls the shots on all military actions. You'd have to presume any one else in the CFR bullpen would match or exceed Bolton's profile in any case. A lot of the media is generally hostile to pursuing diplomacy with North Korea. "A lot"?? More like "ALL of it." Ha -- "generally hostile"?? That's a slight understatement. They drool at the thought of a YUGE nuke exchange. But...At this point,shouldn't almost everyone by now already know that the Dem Party and MSM are one and the same? And both owned by their Globalist-Luciferian overlords?
You saved me the trouble of typing it. I guess that Diplomacy among the so-called Great Powers is quite often opaque to the public. We have no way of knowing exactly how much of it is just gamesmanship or tactics or to what extent such apparent conflicts among key players represent any substantive disagreement. I tend to doubt that Bolton disagrees with Trump fundamentally on major issues, certainly not to the extent that James Mathis did as secretary of defense.
And isn't that exactly the way the PTB have designed it? Especially in the 21st century going forward (till Armageddon.) Speaking of diplomacy, the subject can't be discussed without the mention of H. Kissinger, can it? Many have stopped being confused by exactly what made Henry The K such a so-called special diplomat, and exactly WHO gave him any power. Some have figured it out: The Ruling Elites nominated one of their own to play the role of "Super-Diplomat" to give the impression difficult negotiations were afoot and about to be "resolved." (so the MSM have always reported.) Never one to hide his public disdain for "The People," Henry The K has always represents the kind of arrogance we've grown to expect and abhor from un-elected internationalists. Kissinger's geopolitical negotiations and decisions are never based on what's best for the USA, but ONLY in the interests of un-named Globalists. I'd assume only a President like Donald Trump would accept this "system" of Kissinger-esque negotiations and legitimacy (where few details are ever revealed.) Anyway, back on point; The only "disagreement" I'd presume "Great Powers" (or "Ruling Elites") might have between each other: To what extent the Middle Class is to be culled in the scope of both future standard of living as well as in the eventual numbers they are to exist. I tend to doubt that Bolton disagrees with Trump fundamentally on major issues, certainly not to the extent that James Mathis did as secretary of defense. That does depend on the definition of "major issues"; For the Elites, "Climate Change" is a major issue; NOT for Trump. I agree with your generalization of the Mattis-Trump relationship. As much as Bolton would love WW3, Mattis gave the impression that the entire Middle East should be considered a shooting gallery -- if not engulfed in one yuge nuke plume.
Seems to me Trump has largely changed his mind on foreign policy issues from when he campaigned, and is now pretty much in line with the Bush and Obama policies. He had the right ideas at the start but is now little, if any different from 43 & 44. I've pretty much given up any hope on Trump having a civilized foreign policy. If he can end the war in Korea, that would be very good and is still possible, but everywhere else on the planet he's pretty much screwing up.... Syria, Iran, Russia, Israel, Venezuela.... Domestically, great on the wall, but will he start addressing the budget deficit or just continue to massively fund the US military which is already bigger than the next 20 countries military spending combined, most of whom are considered allies? He's halfway through his presidency, first term at least, and apart from the economy, which granted is a big thing, there's little to be excited about.
With inflation (taxes) and a runaway deficit things aren't looking good there. The big question is whether after the 2021 inauguration the president will have fireside chats about malaise, in a sweater with elbow patches like Jimmiah Carter? Those were the bad old days.
