I had always thought that this song was written by Dave Edmunds - turns out it was written by the pedal steel guitar player in Emmy Lou Harris' band, Hank DeVito. I like both her version and Edmunds'.
I have and like both versions too; been a Dave Edmunds fan since he was a new act. Rockpile, baby; about as good as short pop tunes ever got.

Were you guys into Linda Ronstadt at all? This wasn't nearly my favorite Ronstadt ditty, but this particular LIVE performance is just spectacular. A Top 3 IMHO. Rounding out the Top 3 spectacular live performances: Lou Reed's 'Sweet Jane' (R&R Animal), featuring Dick Wagner & Steve Hunter. Dire Straits, 'Sultan of Swing', Alchemy. (Hank, you wound up buying that CD/DVD, right?) What a band this was! Watch/listen to how sync and tight these guys are, the joy and passion as Linda exhorts them on. No AM station would ever allow the rides and this song to go on 6 minutes. They tore it up. Andrew Gold (had his own band, never knew how good on guitar his was, besides proficiency on piano), Kenny Edwards (under-rated vocalist, bassist), Waddy Wachtel (great long-time guitar sessions guy, still plays for Keith Richards), Dan Dugmore (pedal steel), Brock Walsh (keyboards) and Mike Botts ( drummer from Bread.)

In 2020 you should consider running.... as Boris' VP.
Her role was to give Jerry Brown a "beard" to cover his homosexuality. I don't know about anyone else,but I didn't have a clue about her being a lesbian. The Eagles got their start as her band.The last time I saw either,she was their opening act,and her last song was "Desperado". Which was the song the Eagles opened their act with that night. Women had a voice that rings like a freaking bell. It has to kill her that she lost her voice and had to quit performing and touring. I was lucky enough to see her in concert several times,and she always performed like the champ she was.
