Title: Hero Democrat Senator Jim Webb Urges a Halt to Senate Health Care Votes

Responding to the Republican victory in Massachusetts, Senator Jim Webb, Democrat of Virginia, is calling on Senate leaders to suspend any votes on the Democrats’ health care legislation until the winner in the special Senate election, Scott Brown, is sworn into office.

In a statement, Mr. Webb, who voted for the health care bill in December, congratulated Mr. Brown on his victory and said he looked forward to working with him. But he also said Democrats must take note of the wider implications of the election results.

“In many ways the campaign in Massachusetts became a referendum not only on health care reform but also on the openness and integrity of our government process,” Mr. Webb said. “It is vital that we restore the respect of the American people in our system of government and in our leaders. To that end, I believe it would only be fair and prudent that we suspend further votes on health care legislation until Senator-elect Brown is seated.”

Top Democrats have already signaled that they do not want to rush the health care legislation through the Senate before Mr. Brown can be sworn in. Instead, they are eying a backup plan to ask House Democrats to adopt the Senate health care bill as-is, which would send it directly to President Obama for his signature.

But the quick reaction by Mr. Webb, a centrist, is early evidence that Democratic leaders could find themselves struggling to hold together support for the health care measure. Backing of the bill was always tenuous, and party leaders are bracing for the possibility that Democrats who previously supported the bill may turn against it.

Rim Webb a hero? Oh puh-leeze, the chickenshit political pussy crapped his pants when Brown won in MA. If he were a hero he wouldn't have voted for ObamaCare in the first place.

Have you, uh, jumped in front of any grenades lately?

Jim Webb is a genuine hero. But since he's a dem I understand your need to see him destroyed.

He never wrote about that and you are a liar if you are claiming that he did.

    - Lost Soldiers: "A shirtless man walked toward them along a mud pathway. His muscles were young and hard, but his face was devastated with wrinkles. His eyes were so red that they appeared to be burned by fire. A naked boy ran happily toward him from a little plot of dirt. The man grabbed his young son in his arms, turned him upside down, and put the boy's penis in his mouth."

She stood back up, her face smiling proudly and her round breasts glistening from a spotlight in the dim bar, and left the banana on the bar, cut in four equal sections by the muscles of her vagina."

    - A Country Such as This: "[He] could see Jawbone and Ashley Asthmatic [two guards at a Vietnamese prison camp] napping together in the grass. They faced inward, their arms entwined. It looked like they were masturbating each other. It didn't surprise him. ... It was common to see men holding hands, embracing, playing with each other. Some of them [the guards] had wanted him. He could tell in those evanescent moments between his bao cao bow, the obligatory deference when a guard entered his cell, and the first word or blow that followed it... Quick, grinding voices, turgid with repressed passion. An exploratory reaching of the hand near his groin..."

    - A Sense of Honor: "Nurse Goodbody, dark and voluptuous (Lenahan had forgotten her actual name, it was something long and Italian), was a bedtime friend to many of the doctors in Bethesda. She had hinted to Lenahan that she simply could not contain herself. Doctors tending to patients, she explained, aroused her. Morphine Mary (again Lenahan could not remember her exact name) was a thin, nervous drill sergeant type, a disciplinarian who did not allow her patients even to complain. Lenahan was convinced that Morphine Mary did not even sleep with her husband. She wasn't bad looking, he mused again, staring at her thin frame. If she'd just get laid every now and then she'd mellow out and stop being such a damn witch." (p. 164) (Lenahan brings Goodbody home with him and has sex, pp. 188-190)

Ø Quote is from fourth para in Part 3, "Chapter 4:1600"

Update: Paul sent me the following additional quotes that no one else seems to have picked up on, which better show the context (or lack thereof) in which the other Lost Soldiers quote appears.

    Page 408:

"A hundred meters upriver, then cut to your right, and you will be at the park where the man kissed the little boy's penis."

    Page 409:

"Why did he kiss the little boy's penis?" wondered Dzung. "I do not know," said Manh. And then he shook his head, amazed at Dzung's serenity.

    Page 423:

"The vacant lot where the man had kissed the little boy's penis was just across the street"

I never sold out for a seat on the Politburo, Comrade Webb has. Vietnam or no Vietnam, medals or no medals, it is what is. Webb is just another Obamunist now marching in lock step with Jane Fonda down the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

One man who sat where you do now and graduated from the Naval Academy in 1968 is another member of our administration-Assistant Secretary of Defense James Webb, the most decorated member of his class. James' gallantry as a marine officer in Vietnam won him the Navy Cross and other decorations, including two Purple Hearts. James wrote several books about American service men and women. In his book, "A Sense of Honor," he describes the life that you have chosen. He wrote:

"Servicemen are always in motion, in the air at more than the speed of sound, underwater at depths whales could only dream of, on the surface of the water cruising at 30 miles an hour through crashing seas with another ship almost touching theirs . . . replenishing their oil supplies. Or they are on the ground, in the dirt, testing and training weapons that may someday kill others but today may deal them that same irony. The smallest margin of error separates a live man from a dead man. And in war, of course, they are the first and usually the only ones to pay. The President and the Congress may suffer bad news stories. The military man suffers the deaths of his friends, early and often." End quote.

I want each of you to know that this President understands and appreciates the job that you will be doing. Your lives are precious. You are putting yourselves in harm's way for America's sake, and I will do everything in my power to make certain the country gives you the tools and equipment you need to do your job and to come home safely

Webb's book "Fields of Fire" is one of the best novels ever written about what it's like to be a grunt on the ground involved in conventional warfare. It's as real as it gets, and reading it makes you feel like you are right there with him as he describes what it was like for the typical young infantryman in the 1960's in Asia.

What fascinated me the most was how Webb was able to weave certain moral certitudes delineating right from wrong into situations that, at first glance, you'd believe to be wholly morally wrong. From the fragging of the one Top to the Senator's father turning the draft dodger in, the sense of "right" triumphing was compelling.

A Sense of Honor was a very good book too. It captures the essence of the social conflict that was occurring as the military transformed from what it was in WWII and, to an extent, Korea, i.e. one that defined winning as killing the enemy until he submits to fighting a war in a moral way to victory which, as certain as I sit here, is an impossbility.

Geez, what are you doing now, trying to expound on your common interest in books that discuss homosexual incestual pedophilia?

So what should have been done about Islamofascism?

Turn our our heads and say it doesn't exist?

Is it not telling that after all his bluster, Obama is essentially continuing Bush's policy?

That homo SOB was the biggest traitor that ever sat in the White House,as well as the most incompetent. He made Clinton look like a petty thief and a patriot by comparison, and that's saying something.
