Title: Hero Democrat Senator Jim Webb Urges a Halt to Senate Health Care Votes

Responding to the Republican victory in Massachusetts, Senator Jim Webb, Democrat of Virginia, is calling on Senate leaders to suspend any votes on the Democrats’ health care legislation until the winner in the special Senate election, Scott Brown, is sworn into office. In a statement, Mr. Webb, who voted for the health care bill in December, congratulated Mr. Brown on his victory and said he looked forward to working with him. But he also said Democrats must take note of the wider implications of the election results. “In many ways the campaign in Massachusetts became a referendum not only on health care reform but also on the openness and integrity of our government process,” Mr. Webb said. “It is vital that we restore the respect of the American people in our system of government and in our leaders. To that end, I believe it would only be fair and prudent that we suspend further votes on health care legislation until Senator-elect Brown is seated.” Top Democrats have already signaled that they do not want to rush the health care legislation through the Senate before Mr. Brown can be sworn in. Instead, they are eying a backup plan to ask House Democrats to adopt the Senate health care bill as-is, which would send it directly to President Obama for his signature. But the quick reaction by Mr. Webb, a centrist, is early evidence that Democratic leaders could find themselves struggling to hold together support for the health care measure. Backing of the bill was always tenuous, and party leaders are bracing for the possibility that Democrats who previously supported the bill may turn against it.

The issue of HCR's failure lays firmly on Obama's shoulders. It's one thing to lay out a vision. Another to turn the vision into something tangible and yet another to turn what is tangible into action. He failed after the vision. Clinton had a great technique of being insistent in public while being malable behind closed doors...Obama seems to be the opposite.

The Navy Cross is presented to James H. Webb, Jr., First Lieutenant, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving as a Platoon Commander with Company D, First Battalion, Fifth Marines, First Marine Division (Reinforced), Fleet Marine Force, in connection with combat operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. On July 10, 1969, while participating in a company-sized search and destroy operation deep in hostile territory, First Lieutenant Webb's platoon discovered a well-camouflaged bunker complex that appeared to be unoccupied. Deploying his men into defensive positions, First Lieutenant Webb was advancing to the first bunker when three enemy soldiers armed with hand grenades jumped out. Reacting instantly, he grabbed the closest man and, brandishing his .45 caliber pistol at the others, apprehended all three of the soldiers. Accompanied by one of his men, he then approached the second bunker and called for the enemy to surrender. When the hostile soldiers failed to answer him and threw a grenade that detonated dangerously close to him, First Lieutenant Webb detonated a claymore mine in the bunker aperture, accounting for two enemy casualties and disclosing the entrance to a tunnel. Despite the smoke and debris from the explosion and the possibility of enemy soldiers hiding in the tunnel, he then conducted a thorough search that yielded several items of equipment and numerous documents containing valuable intelligence data. Continuing the assault, he approached a third bunker and was preparing to fire into it when the enemy threw another grenade. Observing the grenade land dangerously close to his companion, First Lieutenant Webb simultaneously fired his weapon at the enemy, pushed the Marine away from the grenade, and shielded him from the explosion with his own body. Although sustaining painful fragmentation wounds from the explosion, he managed to throw a grenade into the aperture and completely destroy the remaining bunker. By his courage, aggressive leadership, and selfless devotion to duty, First Lieutenant Webb upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service.

To tell you the truth, 'Nam vets aren't represented well in politics. I'm sure there are some good ones, but not in 'big name politician' category. John Murtha, Duke Cunningham, Juan McCain, John Kerry, Jim Webb, every one either a thief, liar, &/or a Big Government statist. I believe Charlie Rangel was a Korean War combat vet, I suppose he makes you bust out in pride on July 4th too.

BTW,the Navy Cross is a industrial-strength hero button. The USMC takes Navy Crosses VERY seriously,and they don't just hand them out to anybody. It is the equivalent of the Army's Distinguished Service Cross,and people generally get them after being put in for and turned down on a award of the Medal of Honor.
