The Senate Intelligence Committee is set to release two reports on Monday detailing the breadth of the Russian social media campaign to sow discord in the United States.

The reports, both of which were commissioned by the committee, are based on troves of data that Facebook, Twitter, and Google handed over to the committee about the Russian campaign to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election and American politics generally. Much of the data has not previously been disclosed publicly.

Researchers analyzed more than 10 million tweets, 116,000 Instagram posts, 61,000 Facebook posts and 1,000 videos posted by the Russian government-linked Internet Research Agency (IRA), the troll group indicted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller earlier this year.

Did they detect any meddling activity by Israel?

If not, then there's no point in worrying about the Russians.

If not, then there's no point in worrying about the Russians.

Please explain.

It's clear that the Russians exerted massive influence in order to deprive Americans of a fair and honest election.

This is no longer in dispute.

What is your issue with our dependent state of Israel?

My issue is AIPAC. A political action committee that isn't even denying that their purpose is to be an influential body intent to creating a political environment in the US that is friendly to Israel.

Ever heard of ARPAC? If there was such an organization (American Russian Political Action Committee), wouldn't the D's, CNN & Mueller be all over it screaming collusion, meddling and all?

Well, there's no such thing as ARPAC, but there is an AIPAC. So if anyone is concerned about foreign governments messing with US elections, that is SERIOUSLY concerned, they should be taking down Israel.

Of course it's in dispute. The Russians did not affect the American election. People who voted for Trump didn't do so because of something the Russians said or did. It's ridiculous. Nobody likes the Russians. America voted for Trump because America didn't like Hillary. Putin and Russia had no impact at all on the US election.

You got that mostly right imo.

I voted for Trump not because I don't like Hillary but because I love Trump.

Everybody I know really likes Trump. Almost everybody. There are a couple as you described that he wasn't Hillary.

I think Trump voters mostly liked him. Liked his style. Liked his agenda.

We voted and we picked Trump.

"Friendly to Israel"

What that actually means is "continuing to support Israel with Billions annually in US tax-dollars"

Absent humanitarian need, a sensible policy would be to eliminate foreign government welfare payments.

People who voted for Trump didn't do so because of something the Russians said or did.

I don't agree.

And clearly, neither do the Russian mobsters who invested heavily in electing their chosen one, the Toad.

According to WAPO
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/04/14/somebody-just-put-a- price-tag-on-the-2016-election-its-a-doozy/? noredirect=on&utm_term=.6f9b416a008b

About $2.4 BILLION was spent on the last presidential election.

That money was spent for one purpose - to affect people's attitude toward any given candidate - to influence their vote.

Spending on social media campaigns was instrumental to all the candidate's campaigns, some used it quite well, some did not.

The DS45 campaign (with the help of a hostile foreign power) used it exceptionally well.

There are millions of ignorant and gullible Americans who are easily fooled and are quick to follow.......and they often vote.

Nobody likes the Russians.

45 and his crime family do.....

Putin and Russia had no impact at all on the US election.

Yes, in fact they did.

I absolutely agree.

But that's beside the point. Israel DOES engage in HEAVY influence on US politics. If we don't like foreign countries meddling in US affairs, Israel is the place to start as their influence is huge and involves a lot more than just trying to influence votes via facebook. They actively donate to campaigns and then move to influence everyone in Congress.

And for anyone who gets bent out of shape over what the Russians may have done, the US does the same world over without any remorse from D's OR R's, and doesn't waste time with FB posting when it does.

I understand that there are new sanctions being planned for Russia in the new congress.....

Perhaps Israel should suffer the same consequences.......

I'm sure most here would appreciate additional information on Israel's actions toward influencing US foreign policy.

Please and Thank you.

Well, you may be right that "Political Action Committiees" may be prohibited from donating to specific election campaigns. I'm sketchy on those legal details. Perhaps their activities are limited to lobbying sitting elected officials or promoting a pro-Israel perspectives via media participation, but there's no denying that there is a political action committee dedicated to this, and Israel does engage in media manipulation to deride those who criticize it, and that this effort goes beyond simply being the work of US citizens who are pro-Israel.

From: www.aipac.org/about/mission

AIPAC’s staff and citizen activists educate decision makers about the bonds that unite the United States and Israel and how it is in America’s best interest to help ensure that the Jewish state is safe, strong and secure.

Cooperation between the two countries is advantageous for both nations. As America's bipartisan pro-Israel lobby, AIPAC urges all members of Congress to support Israel through foreign aid, government partnerships, joint anti-terrorism efforts and the promotion of a negotiated two-state solution—a Jewish state of Israel and a demilitarized Palestinian state.

All countries lobby.

Maybe Israels interests are more aligned with ours.

Maybe it is because they don't go on TV like the Palestinians do and call for murdering Jews.

Israel is a bit more civilized. If a Jew murders a Muslim in an Israeli bar. The Jew will be prosecuted. If a Muslim in the Gaza strip kills a Jew. He will be rewarded.

According to ProPublica, 4 of the top 10 governments lobbying in Washington are Arab, in terms of spending. The United Arab Emirates places first, having spent $10,914,002 in 2007 and 2008. Iraq, Morocco and Saudi Arabia also each spent over $3 million, and the non-Arab, Middle Eastern nation of Turkey also spent over $3 million.[12]

In June 2017, Qatar began a "massive lobbying campaign" in the U.S. after President Donald Trump sided with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and other Arab countries in imposing a blockade against Qatar. Through August 2018, "Qatar has hired 35 US lobbying firms and paid them a total of at least $19.5 million." According to disclosure filings, "The lobbyists contacted hundreds of members of the US Congress and dozens of journalists and Trump administration officials while spending millions of dollars on advertising that promotes Qatar as a US ally."[13] Lobbyists hired by Qatar include Trump fundraiser Brian Ballard of Ballard Partners and former attorney general John Ashcroft.[14][15] Mohammed bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, brother of the Emir of Qatar, is alleged to be directing the U.S. lobbying campaign.[16]

I can think of one campaign donation but this was during the Clinton administration where they were receiving campaign gift donations form the Indonesian governments and the Chinese governments. This was all later revealed in federal court in 2001 where James Riady was being deposed on this. The FEC (Federal Election Commission) oversees elections and any gifts of $10,000 or more are to be reported; it is illegal to be accepting gifts from foreign governments (even if they are our allies).
