Title: Rep. Eric Swalwell Thinks Gun Confiscation Will Work Out Fine Because Government Has Nukes

While Swalwell insists it was 'sarcasm' it's bad form to reply to a citizen aggrieved at openly threatening constitutional rights connected with self and civil defense with implied threat of mass murder.

What does it take to get a U.S. House member to (sarcastically! sarcastically, he insists) very publicly threaten to nuke American citizens who want to defend their constitutional rights under the Second Amendment?

Nothing more than pushing back on Twitter against that congressman, Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.)'s proposal from earlier this year to fully ban and buy back every one of what he wants to designate as "assault weapons" with the added bonus of "criminally prosecut[ing] any who choose to defy it."

Apparently feeling a bit threatened by this proposal to go after him and millions of other Americans for possessing an individually owned tool of self-defense and recreation, this was tweeted by a Joe Biggs today:

Rep. Swalwell, willing to make sure the war against any possible American citizen resistance over gun confiscation doesn't fall into the endless quagmire of so many other guerrilla wars of the past century, reminds the citizen that while the government as represented by him wants your guns, it has something far stronger it would be perfectly happy to use if you complain:

Just a little chilling, isn't it, that mafia-like "reminder that we can and will kill you" followed by "thus I'm sure we can talk it out." Swalwell followed up with a bunch of "well, he started it!" posts and insists he was being sarcastic. But that mindset, including its delusional belief that the American military would rather mass murder its own citizens than allow them to continue to enjoy Second Amendment rights as applied to an arbitrary and, as a matter of public policy, rather unimportant set of weapons, reveals why it's so difficult for America's gun owners and those who support their rights to stay calm when politicians talk about their own vision of "common sense gun control."

And it would be a short war my friend. The government has nukes. Too many of them.

The government has nukes, but those nukes are operated by Americans.

If I get the order to nuke New York, I am more likely to shoot the person who gave me the order and nuke the headquarters that ordered it than to nuke New York.

The problem with ordering armed men to commit atrocities is that armed men can turn, shoot the officers, then shoot the politicians.

The German or Soviet military could have always shot Hitler or Stalin, and the soldiers driven forward across the battlefield by the pistol-carrying kommissars could have dropped, turned by surprise and shot the kommissars.

Throughout history governments have been overthrown by their militaries, and officers have been gunned down by their men when they were demanded to do something unconscionable.

Alexander the Great, having conquered Persia, marched onward into Northwestern India and was plowing forward against the natives there also, but a few of his generals made it clear to Alexander that the Greek men who made up his army were not willing to continue to march to forever war. They had conquered Persia and now wanted to enjoy the spoils of conquest and live prosperous and happy lives as rulers, not go on and die in endless war. Alexander recognized that his army would not continue to march on, and that his generals would, in fact, murder him if he tried to make them. So he stopped.

Armed men who choose to do heroic things and die in great numbers on the battlefields can, and do, turn their guns on their own officers and destroy their own governments.

If the US government ordered nuclear strikes on US territory, the military would probably not obey the order but would, instead, overthrow the civilian government that ordered them to do so. And when the word was out to the rest of the military that that is what had been ordered, probably 95% of the military would turn on the government as well. If you're going to nuke my kids to maintain political power, you are a war criminal. Given the order, I would be more likely to nuke the capital in retaliation than to nuke New York. There is, in fact, no constellation of facts that would cause me to nuke New York - that is treason IN SE. I would consider it my duty to destroy whoever gave me the order, and I would do it by surprise, probably starting with the officer who gave me the order, unless he joined me in the rebellion.

You cannot order the American Air Force or Navy to nuke American cities and live. It won't happen. Give that order, and your life is forfeit. Give that order, and join the rebellion or die on the spot.

We don't nuke our own cities. Anybody who orders us to do that is a traitor by definition, and should be shot on the spot by whatever traitor gives that order.
