The department is confident they will be able to get him into a U.S. courtroom, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the plan. Mr. Assange has been holed up in the Ecuadorean embassy in London since 2012. Justice Department officials believe a public indictment may be a means to remove him from the embassy, the report said. Assange fled to Sweden in 2012 over allegations of sexual assault and rape. Swedish Swedish prosecutors dropped the case last year, but he still faces an arrest for violating his bail conditions if he leaves the embassy. Ecuadorean officials have publicly complained about hosting Mr. Assange. President Lenin Moreno referred to Mr. Assange as a “stone in our shoe.” U.S. intelligence officials believe Wikileaks and Russian hackers partnered to release emails stolen from the Democratic National Committee during the 2016 presidential campaign. Special counsel Robert Mueller is said to be investigating connections between Roger Stone, a longtime political operative and adviser to President Trump before the 2016 election, and Wikileaks. Assange only took the data and published the same, BFD. The USA is still pissed at Assange for the Iraq publications (all true, btw) and that little queer that sent the information to wikileaks.

If Trump jambs up Assange, he's history in 2020. The next president will pardon Julian, it's The Donald's choice if that's him or someone else. Most likely Donnell will go down protecting his beloved Deep State swamp.

If they charge Assange Trump should pardon him. It will hurt Trump if he does't. In a close election that matters.

Should? Probably. But Assange really angered the right wing security establishment. Trump likes those folks, and he will listen to them.
This will be an interesting case. Trump owes WikiLeaks a lot considering the data dumps they did on the Clintonistas.
This has been rumored to be happening for a number of years now. The Obama justice department "supposedly" had enough to charge him and declined to do so clear back in 2013. Considering the Obama administration had a huge woody over whistleblowers and freedom of the press you really have to wonder why they changed their mind about Assange?? (They were embarrassed many times over leaks about their silliness and were destroying documents at the very end to preserve Obozo and that administrations image). So what's changed? Trump/Russia collusion... lol (And for those silly little idiots who are still screaming "We need to see Trumps tax returns" well guess what Assange already did that)!!!
