Judiciary Committee processes Trump nominees over Democrats' objections

By Alex Swoyer - The Washington Times - Tuesday, November 13, 2018

Senators returned to Washington Tuesday and immediately picked up where they left off — processing President Trump’s judicial nominees, over the objections of Democrats.

The Judiciary Committee held a hearing for Paul B. Matey, nominated to the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and for four district court picks.

Mr. Matey’s nomination is particularly controversial because it marks another round in the fight over Senate traditions and courtesies and their abuse in the era of Mr. Trump.

Mr. Matey is slated to fill a seat on the appeals court that’s traditionally ascribed to New Jersey. But that state’s senators, both Democrats, object to the president’s pick, and have withheld their “blue slips” to signify their opposition.

“To say that my objections to this judge is just because they’re conservative is just not fair,” Sen. Cory Booker said, arguing he wasn’t properly consulted on Mr. Matey’s nomination. “Nobody has asked me what my objections might be.”

Outgoing senator Floyd Flake. What an ass.

Flake to halt judicial nominees until Mueller protection bill passed

By Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Wednesday, November 14, 2018

Sen. Jeff Flake announced Wednesday that he will not vote to advance any new judicial nominees through the Judiciary Committee, nor will he vote to confirm picks on the Senate floor, until he gets his way on unrelated legislation to prevent the firing of special counsel Robert Mueller.

Mr. Flake made the announcement on the Senate floor minutes after his bid to pass the bill failed.

His threat could block the committee from approving any more judges this year, since the GOP only holds a one-seat majority on the panel.

It’s less catastrophic to approving judges on the Senate floor, where the GOP holds 51 seats. Even losing Mr. Flake, Republicans could still approve judges on a 50-50 vote with Vice President Mike Pence breaking the tie.

Still, the senator’s move was a major escalation in the battle over Mr. Mueller, who is investigating the 2016 election, Russian interference and Trump campaign figures’ behavior.

Some days you are a Republican. Some days you are a independent. But you always love democrats because they steal from the fruitful and give to the idle.

Nope.

I always support Social Security and Medicare: these are necessary old-age programs.

I always support Medicaid - this is necessary medical relief for the poor, and I support expansion to cover the entire working class.

I always support food stamps and school breakfast and lunch programs: it is imperative that children be fed if they are to learn.

I always support universal public education. I support zero-interest loans for college students as well.

I support lowering the drinking age to 18 or 16 nationwide, and legalizing marijuana for recreational use.

I support medical treatment for drug addicts, not incarceration.

I support voluntary school prayer, because of freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

I support the primary teaching of evolution in public schools, but a short lesson on the creation myths of the various religions as well, with an effort to show how the creation myths themselves contain truths based on pre- scientific human observation.

I oppose the death penalty, as I do not believe our criminal justice system is reliable.

I oppose abortion on demand.

I believe that everybody should be taxed at the same percentage of wealth, and that nothing should be exempt from taxation. So, IF we are going to tax the standard form of middle and working class wealth: real property and cars, then the primary form of wealth of the rich: securities, should be taxed at the same percentage. Our tax code taxes working and middle class wealth acquisition and holdings, and taxes the poor with sales taxes, but leaves the primary means of wealth accumulation of the rich - securities - untaxed. I support applying the same taxes that apply to my wealth to the wealth of the wealthy. I believe that they would scream so loudly about having so much of their wealth taxed away every year that we would finally get serious about equitable tax reform.

I believe in a robust military that should be primarily deployed within the United States to defend the Southern border.

I think that the Second Amendment does guarantee the right to keep and bear arms, subject to regulation, which cannot rightly be to zero, but which certainly can include gun registration. That said, I am perfectly willing to give the gun lobby what it wants on the matter of guns in order to get their votes for necessary social welfare.

I want the police forces brought sharply to heel and held to the same standard as civilians when they shoot people.

This is not a particularly Republican nor Democrat set of beliefs.

You have also supported raising taxes on the so called rich when it was at 40 percent.

So you want to tax the poor 50 percent.

Fuck you lunatic lefty.

Go eat some lizard and rat shit.

The rich don't pay 40% of their wealth in taxes.

Yes they do, some of them even higher.

Only after they die, with the estate tax. Income and wealth are not synonyms.
