President Trump has accepted Nikki Haleys resignation as US Ambassador, according to two sources briefed on their conversation, yet the timing of her departure is still unclear, reports Axios. Last week, Haley discussed her resignation with Trump during a visit with him at the White House, according to sources who spoke with Axios. The news shocked many senior foreign policy officials within the Trump administration.
As former governor of South Carolina, Haley was easily confirmed just four days after President Trumps inauguration in 2017. Haley has overseen Trumps shift when dealing with the UN, which includes the United States exit from the UN Human Rights Council, which Haley referred to as the organizations greatest failure.
Communications director Jonathan Wachtel and chief of staff Steven Groves also stepped down from their posts at the United Nations in August of 2017.
