Not only is this country really expensive but it's a complete tourist trap once you are on one of their "beautiful" cayes (islands) on the caribbean sea with the filthy beaches and water full of seaweed and the pathetic resorts that charge exhorbitant rates for 2 star dwelliings. Most of these so-called "resorts" are owned by either egotistical Canadians and Americans who retired to Belize but have obviously no conception of resort management. The country is full of washed up musicians and displaced westerners who do nothing but drink themselves to oblivion from sunrise to sunset everyday because of the boredom of the country! The country reminded me of a typical ex-colony where the Belizeans work for meager wages and struggle to survive while the foreigners control their livelihood. This country is ripe for a revolution and it is only a matter of time - it's a ticking time bomb as is evident with the growth of gangs and gang violence in south Belize City where even the local police are afraid to venture. This is a beautiful and lush country but you can see the pain and misery in the average persons eyes and faces. In my opinion, there are far too many other more desirable places where I can enjoy a real vacation without being gouged at hotels, restaurants and anywhere else you turn. If drinking cheap rum and smoking cheap pot for your entire vacation is your thing, then by all means - go to Belize! THINKING OF BELIZE? - STAY AWAY. Haven't seen you in a while. This thread was at least nominally about the Kavanaugh case and I was interested in your take on Christine Blasey Ford. I leaned toward finding her mentally ill and used and abused by her lawyer and the Dems. Many have found her emotional testimony compelling. I just thought you were the most qualified on the board to opine about Ford, but you were not around. It is my considered opinion that the testimony by Christine Blasey Ford was yet another one of many cases of implanted false memories and this once again should show that memories of abuse “recovered” during psychotherapy are unreliable. To validate my opinion, I point to Doctor Elizabeth Loftus a forensic psychologist from the University of California in Irvine, as well as other professionals, extensive studies on this explainable phenomenon and the controversy surrounding false and repressed memories. She, and others, documented case studies where beliefs that someone has about themselves can actually be false beliefs, however at some point, these beliefs begin to feel like recollections and take on the consciousness of actual memories. During her studies in the memory laboratory at university, Doctor Loftus has done hundreds of experiments involving thousands of subjects showing that it’s relatively easy to change people’s memory of the details of an event they’ve actually experienced. She has shown that suggestibility and vividness of imagination seem to be strongly linked and people are more likely to recall events that fit their own prejudices about the world around them. There are numerous high-profile cases of false memory that have dominated courtrooms and the news over the past few decades where accusations of implanted memories have now become a common strategy often used by defense attorneys. Setting aside the very real legal consequences of false memory in the courtroom, there is also the tragic legacy that such accusations can leave behind. I believe that Christine Blasey Ford left such a tragic legacy accusation behind that will forever carry a stigma against soon to be Justice Brett Kavanaugh. My take away message and a point I will always remember from this fiasco is from the 40 years of workings and studies on these issues we must always remember that just because someone tells you that they have a detailed memory that’s very vivid and passes a lie detector test…that doesn’t mean that it’s true. I do however believe she is weak minded and easily influenced. Whereas, she justly allowed herself to be manipulated….duped….by Democrat operatives.
