I have been thinking that the democrat party is dramaticly changing again. It happen in the 60's and now its happening again.

Has anyone else notice the radical changes?

Could this be the end of the democrat party as a dominate party?

Have the Regressives pushed to far for the last time and could we see a major change in voting blocks?

Could we get a party in near future that is right of the GOP that is actually viable?

"Has anyone else notice the radical changes?" Yes.

"Could this be the end of the democrat party as a dominate party?" Yes.

"Have the Regressives pushed to far for the last time and could we see a major change in voting blocks?" Yes.

"Could we get a party in near future that is right of the GOP that is actually viable?" You could get such a party, but it will not dominate. Instead, the Republican Party will come to be the party of the Center, which is where the American people live, the Democrat party will be the unelectable party of the Socialist Left, and the Right Wing party will be the unelectable party of the hard right.

The Center will always dominate. The party of the center will be the dominant party. That seems likely to be the Republicans.

The American people are not hard right nor hard left, they are center right on social issues and center left on social welfare.

The ideologues of neither party are content with that. So they splinter off into the extremes and diminish: nobody changes the minds of the people. Nobody even tries.

You've got a majoritarian American right here on this site writing to you everyday: me. You guys make no effort to persuade me of anything. You berate me for not being a hard right lunatic like you. In the real world, you always lose and I always win, because the country votes Republican or Democrat to keep things where the majority - people like me - like it.

You don't like people like me, because we're not with you on the hard right causes, and you despise social welfare.

The Left doesn't like people like me, because we're not with them on hard Left causes, and our notions of social welfare stop ten steps short of the socialism they want.

So the Left hates us, and the Right hates us - because they're out of power and angry.

If you wanted to move the country farther right, you'd have to persuade people like me. You don't even try. So you lose.

Fortunately for you, the Left doesn't even try either, so they lose too.

We don't move much, and we do win on everything, but we don't like all the drama. So that's what we'd like to see: you guys on the Right accept some necessary things you reject, and the guys on the Left to stop bleeding out the eyes and wearing hair shirts on every single issue.

But you won't, and they won't, so we won't.

The Republicans, the center-right, have a very, very good chance here to take control for a generation. They can get center-Left people as the Left goes full moron. But the Republicans won't if THEY go full moron as well. Instead, they'll end up saving the Democrat party.

And that'd be a shame.

A shame that is likely to happen. Until you guys can talk to me civilly and understand where I am coming from and respect it, you don't have one goddamn hope in hell of EVER holding power,. or of EVER getting even one major policy thing you want, while about 85% of what I want will keep winning and remain the law of the land. And the 15% I dislike will skew Left, not Right, because there are more socialists than Right wing nutjobs, and the poor are more sympathetic than the rich.

When I was growing up in the 50's and 60's I always thought of Democrats as "blue-collar" and Republicans as "white collar". But this was before the Civil Rights Act, Roe v. Wade, environmentalism, gay rights, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Lyndon Johnson's Great Society.

The Republican Party today is basically the same as it was, but the Democrat Party grew by peeling off groups of people from the Republican Party -- blacks and other minorities, gays, women, the disabled, environmentalists, gun control freaks, bleeding hearts and anyone with a cause. A whole bunch of single-issue voters.

The decline of our manufacturing base led to a decline in union membership and blue- collar jobs in general. Along comes Trump to save them -- the core of the Democrat Party -- with real jobs and fewer regulations. It would be suicidal for them not to back him.

Now the Democrats are forced to cast an even bigger net to maintain their power. They're going after the socialist vote by offering free education, free health care, a "living wage", a basic income guarantee, free housing, a "path to citizenship for illegals, and open borders.
