BLACKMAN TWP., MI - Andrew Paielli and state trooper Ronnie Tucker shared an emotional embrace for the second time Wednesday, July 25 at the Michigan State Police Jackson Post.

Their first hug came after Tucker and other officers helped Paielli save the life of his newborn baby, Hanna Paielli, after her dramatic birth outside the police station Monday, July 23.

"I'm extremely grateful for everyone that helped," Andrew Paielli said.

Tucker became emotional when he saw and held Hanna on Wednesday in a reunion at the MSP Jackson Post.

"It's amazing," Tucker said. "I don't think there's words that can describe what it feels like to see the baby actually alive and well right now. Seeing how the parents were grateful for everything. There's no way to explain it."

Around 1 a.m. Monday, the Paiellis drove down M-106 from Stockbridge toward Henry Ford Allegiance Health, where Jessica Paielli was expected to give birth to the couple's fourth child.

Jessica's water broke about two minutes before they reached the edge of Cooper Street Correctional Facility, Andrew Paielli said.

Two minutes after that, Hanna Paielli began to make her way out, feet first.

Andrew Paielli knew the state police post at 3401 Cooper St. was up ahead.

He stopped, tried to find help and learned nobody was answering at the station, which closes at 4 p.m. on weekdays.

Hanna was born inside the couple's SUV.

Andrew said her skin was blue and purple and not responsive. Andrew handed the baby to his wife and went back to see if anyone was at the post -- to no avail.

He called 911.

Suddenly, with sirens blaring, help came racing around the corner, Andrew Paielli said.

Tucker, who was working on a report for a domestic violence arrest he made earlier in his overnight shift, sprinted from around the building.

Andrew and Jessica Paielli, who works in health care, had been trying to bring their child to a responsive state when police arrived and joined the effort to revive Hanna.

Tucker, 23, a former Olympic weightlifter at Northern Michigan University, has been with MSP Jackson for eight months.

He was without his partner, who had to leave for another emergency, but he had CPR equipment in his vehicle, and he had the training he underwent in police academy.

Hanna had a pulse, but wasn't breathing at all.

Tucker said he performed lifesaving techniques to keep the newborn's airwaves open, and tried rubbing her chest for stimulation, eventually finding success.

"When she let out her first cry, I think I almost fainted," Tucker said, who credited police from Blackman-Leoni Township and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office for helping with the revival.

The child soon began to gain some color, and eventually started breathing on her own, Andrew said.

"I was extremely happy, but at the same time I think I was in somewhat of a shocked state," Andrew Paielli said. "I was afraid -- more afraid than I'd ever been in my life -- that I was going to lose my daughter."

Covered in blood, Tucker looked at Andrew Paielli and noticed he was crying, Tucker said. They hugged.

"I'm sure we'll remain friends for the rest of our lives," Tucker said.

Andrew Paielli drove to the hospital and he said he began to shed tears when when he realized his daughter would be OK.

The family was discharged from the hospital Wednesday. Hanna Paielli is a healthy baby at 9 pounds, 15 ounces. She slept during her family's interaction with Tucker on Wednesday, but Andrew said she'll remind her daughter for the rest of her life of what happened that night.

"We're extremely grateful for everyone that was involved in ensuring that she is with us today," Andrew Paielli said. "We're just ready to get back home and get back to every day."
