The thing that perplexes me is that it is obvious the ball first the ground in foul territory. Shouldn't that had made the play dead?

No. Had to hurt. But at least it wasn't by a single run. Houston has been winning by every imaginable way. It's the one team I despise (even more than the Sawx.)

I can't watch any highlights after a bad Yankee loss. Like last night to the pathetic O's.

Cleveland's starting rotation is very good the pen sux and needs to be upgraded if they plan to go anywhere in the playoffs.

Reds started the season horribly 3-18 and fired the head coach, they have turned it around since they hired Riggleman as the interim manager. They are about 10-12 games over .500 since he took over. They have a lot of young players some of them are excelling at the plate and the starters are slowly learning what it means to be a major league pitcher. They could be a playoff contending team next year if things go right and they bolster the pen during the winter. Am planning to attend a late season game or 2 when the weather cools off and they call up some of the minor league players, Nick Senzel being one of them. But if they trade Scooter Gennett before the trade deadline for a starter I will get a chance to see him sooner since he will be Gennett's replacement. Right now they are losing 11-0 and look like a "A" team even though they beat Cleveland the last 2 nights, typical young team good one night sux the next.

It appears Cleveland is getting some revenge. They are up 17-0 in the 4th.

It ended up being 19-4 and doesn't surprise me cause every team gets blown out a couple of times a year. The Reds young pitching staff caused this to happen but that's all part of the learning process. Go home drink a beer or 2 go to sleep and wake up refreshed and have no recollection of what happened last night other than what pitches you don't want to throw again. lol A short memory is key to the learning process, dwelling on how embarrassed you feel will only hold you back.

Well the mind does gather cobwebs over the years, so I'll recall this the best I can.

I remember a game in 1989 when the Reds scored 16 runs in the first inning against the Astros. The Astros were in strong contention at the time. The Reds batted around twice and then some, and the only batter the pitcher could out get was the Reds pitcher. Even he got a hit the second time around.

The pitcher (I don't recall who it was) didn't seem to be throwing bad pitches, but the batters were hitting everything "where they ain't."

It didn't matter. The Astros faded badly down the stretch as they always did at that time.

Seems to me I remember one where the Reds beat the Mets 19-17 back in the 70s.

I think from that same year, I remember a Reds loss better. This was when Pete Rose was in the thick of his gambling scandal. I was also betting a lot on sports those days. The Reds were playing the Montreal Expos, and there were good odds on betting the Reds. I bet a HUGE sum on them. The Reds were leading 5-1 going into the bottom of the 9th and they sent John Franco out to close the game. I'm thinking, "I've got this won."

So I left that book where the game was on TV, to go to check out possible bets on something else. They had sports tickers going and I looked up and it said, (At Montreal, 3 run HR by Aleu. Current score Cincinnati 5 Montreal 4 , 0 out.) I'm thinking, Oh crap.

So I run back to where the game is on TV, and I see another man is already on base for the Expos. They sacrifice him to second. That was the only out of the inning for the Reds. The next man up was a weak hitter who still managed to slam the ball out of the park.

I guess a lot of other people who must have bet the same way I did muttering because Franco wasn't replaced, "Pete Rose must have bet on the Expos."

Franco was usually pretty reliable late in the game so that was unusual.

I think this game was around late July 1989, so you can look it up on baseball reference if you want.
