The thing that perplexes me is that it is obvious the ball first the ground in foul territory. Shouldn't that had made the play dead?
I don't think I've ever seen an infield ball go foul and then come back fair without it being touched. That's why I wasn't even aware of the rule.
I have coaching Little League baseball. Last season I was standing in the hole of the 1B dugout when my #7 man hit a chopper which went down the 1B lime first in foul territory and then hit the chalk on the second bounce then followed the chalk line towards first slowly. Ump made no call so the kid kept running towards 1B and was safe as the pitcher and first baseman thought it was foul and did not move. Then when the pitcher grabbed the ball and moved towards home to argue with the ump I sent my player to 2B swiping that bag, and when the pitcher turned around throwing towards 2nd (3B coach had our player make a huge turn at second to bait the throw) we sent the kid on third home for the run.
