Opinions/Editorials Title: Rush to Judge 'Rush' JOHN W LILLPOP Rush to Judge 'Rush' Finally. After three long years and innumerable human sacrifices to appease the Op-ed gods at the far- left reaches of the universe, the leftist media got its pound of flesh. For about five-to-ten minutes last Friday afternoon, three simple words made irrelevant the election and re-election of George Bush, GOP control of the House and Senate, and confirmation of two conservative judges to the Supreme Court. The three magic words? 'Rush Limbaugh arrested!' Reaction at most 'news57' outlets on the Internet was wild jubilation, subdued only by an occasional outbreak of mass hysteria. Only Matt Drudge and precious few others actually had the story in proper context. Scant mention at most sites of the fact that, under terms of the agreement between Rush and his Democrat persecutor, Limbaugh was allowed to declare himself 'Not Guilty.' Not much said, either, of the fact that the single charge will be expunged from the public record in 18 months. Funny what a left-wing bias can do to an otherwise normal intellect. Rush Limbaugh's gravest mistake is that he has never conspired to kill millions of American citizens. He has not declared war on American infidels, nor has he lopped off the head of a backsliding 'ditto-heads' for listening to Air America. Unless you count his slaying of the Clintons or a Kennedy here and there, Rush has done violence to no one. And those mutilations were merely figurative, using his 'Talent on Loan from God' to deliver withering, much deserved, verbal blows to wrong-minded liberals guilty of polluting the body politic. To be quite blunt, Rush's 'press' would have been better had he been caught trying to detonate a nuclear device with the end of a burning cigar at Yankee Stadium, filled to capacity with 60,000 drunken Yankee fans. In the NO SMOKING section, no less. In that situation, the New York Times would have droned on endlessly about wretched government excesses that threaten the very liberties and rights America was founded on. Liberal pundits everywhere would have opined about how the war on terror itself would be in vain should Homeland Security act too aggressively in trying to prevent New York City from becoming a blue haze of irradiation for the next 1,000 millennium. But Rush is not a terrorist, or even a bad person. He is a decent, patriotic American who got caught in the cross-hairs of a partisan Democrat attorney from Florida looking for a cheap shot at 15 minutes of fame. Professional standards and legal ethics be damned---Rush was just too tempting a target. By Monday morning, the full in-context story emerged. There would be no trial, Rush's Not Guilty declaration was part and parcel of the Agreement, and a single charge will be expunged in 18 months. End of story. Florida's Democrat-sponsored witch hunt of a conservative superstar was officially over. And how was Limbaugh's victory reported in the leftist media? Well, the Old Gray Lady had 'investigative reporters' working 24/7 to find evidence that President Bush violated the rights of al-Quaida operatives with unwarranted domestic surveillance technology. After all, America has not been attacked since 9/11, right? That proves it: Bush MUST be bugging somebody! And the rest of the media? Pre-occupied with Mob Rule, illegal aliens and Uno de Mayo Day.
