Oh, high schoolers. What would we do without your loud, wise voices on the national political stage? Gun-rights activist David Hogg has found a way to miraculously extend his fifteen minutes of fame with another boycott attempt against his old nemesis: Fox News Channel host Laura Ingraham. Hogg was apparently offended by remarks Ingraham made on her show this week regarding the manufactured child migrant crisis at the border. Ingraham, noting reports from inside the child detention centers that made it clear that this was NOT the Auschwitz-like conditions that leftist activists were trying to make it out to be, compared the facilities to something more akin to “summer camps.”
After Twitter lit up with outrage, Ingraham revisited the topic later on in her show, saying, “The San Diego Union-Tribune today described the facilities as essentially like what you would expect at a boarding school. So I will stick to that.”
But that didn’t stop the fame-and-power-hungry Hogg from turning his Twitter fanbase into a weapon against the conservative star.
“So @IngrahamAngle, we meet again,” he wrote on Tuesday. “Who are your biggest advertisers now?”
Hogg then posted a list of prominent Ingraham Angle advertisers and instructed his followers to boycott the products therein.
But if Fox News was defiant the last time Hogg tried to organize a boycott of Ingraham’s advertisers – on that occasion, he was upset that she mocked his college rejections – then they were no less so this time around. Perhaps they recalled that Hogg only succeeded in boosting Ingraham’s ratings by 20% the last time he tried this stunt.
“Laura Ingraham’s very personal, on-the-ground commitment to the plight of impoverished and abandoned children—specifically in Guatemala— speaks for itself,” the network said in a statement. “So too does her strong belief in a commonsense, legal immigration system, which will continue to be a focus of her show. FOX News will never tolerate or give in to attempts to silence diverse viewpoints by agenda-driven intimidation efforts.”
We suppose the calculation on that might conceivably change if the pressure on Ingraham’s advertisers got bad enough, but there’s really no reason to suspect that it will. Anyone advertising on her show has to understand that her viewers don’t give a damn about what David Hogg and his leftist minions think. Hell, conservatives will be MORE likely to buy the products now that they know these companies are under siege.
The left is never going to stop trying to forcibly silence people who disagree with their twisted view of the world. Unfortunately for them, truth is a tough thing to keep silent.
