In what appears to be an attack on all things good, the Miss America Organization has announced that contestants will only be judged on their thoughts, passion, and understanding

(INTELLIHUB) — Miss America has scrapped the tradition of judging contestants on their physical appearance altogether which has created a rather ominous atmosphere among those who represent the crown.

Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Miss America Organization Gretchen Carlson announced on Tuesday that the organization was “no longer a pageant” but rather a “contest.”

According to the former Miss America named board trustee, now, contestants will be judged only on their intelligence, passion, and their understanding of what it means to be crowned Miss America rather that what society thinks matters most which, historically speaking, has always been beauty.

Needless to say, withal, the organization is also doing away with the traditional Miss America gowns in what appears to be some sort of quickening of the current societal implosion.

Surely, the "Miss America Organization" is cutting it's own throat with this, as regardless of the good intent behind this decision, the public simply won't care who wins anymore. Ratings will fall, and either they'll roll back this decision or disappear. Perhaps a new future organization, bold enough to not be PC on this topic, will arise and take the crown from this organization.

Maybe beauty pageants are a dumbass tradition from the 20th century and no one should miss them when they do go away.

Women have a natural propensity to want to be beautiful. Always have, always will. Us guys like to race cars, women like to race beauty. There's nothing intuitively wrong with either.

They mostly tend to primp and groom competitively so they can give other less attractive women a big case of envy, turn anorexic, make them start cutting themselves, or have major depression.

There is a really vicious side to beauty pageants in general. Isn't it enough that they have all the great advantages of beauty without rubbing the faces of those less fortunate in it?

No, away with these horrible pageants. Especially the child pageants which are the most grotesque of all.

I agree with you here 2Comm. Most people will say something like your daughter is cute or adorable or pretty, depending on their age. Yes, the focus is on appearance.

My biggest compliment will be: you have a polite, well-behaved daughter or son. But only if they are.

It is a more worthy, more socially oriented behavioral goal than this constant obsession with personal appearance and youth. Most of it is driven by the youth-oriented advertising market. It's not just culture, it's economic as well.

What is supposed to be so wrong with judging people by their character and intelligence and job performance instead of superficial and often-temporary qualities of youth and beauty?

As a culture, we value youth and beauty over many other more important qualities, to the detriment of society.

You can't judge pre-teens by those standards because they are not fully-formed humans yet.

They are "humans in training" and it is up to all of us to train them by word as well as example.
