(INTELLIHUB) — Miss America has scrapped the tradition of judging contestants on their physical appearance altogether which has created a rather ominous atmosphere among those who represent the crown. Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Miss America Organization Gretchen Carlson announced on Tuesday that the organization was “no longer a pageant” but rather a “contest.” According to the former Miss America named board trustee, now, contestants will be judged only on their intelligence, passion, and their understanding of what it means to be crowned Miss America rather that what society thinks matters most which, historically speaking, has always been beauty. Needless to say, withal, the organization is also doing away with the traditional Miss America gowns in what appears to be some sort of quickening of the current societal implosion. Let's judge the Miss America contestants the same way they do on the TV show, The Voice. There, the judges sit in a high-backed chair with their backs to the contestant and they make their selection based solely on what they hear. Appearances don't factor into their decision. Actually, the Miss America contest could end up being really fun to watch if the fat ugly ones keep advancing to the top.
Surely, the "Miss America Organization" is cutting it's own throat with this, as regardless of the good intent behind this decision, the public simply won't care who wins anymore. Ratings will fall, and either they'll roll back this decision or disappear. Perhaps a new future organization, bold enough to not be PC on this topic, will arise and take the crown from this organization. Or there will be no replacement. Which may be just as well, by some reasoning.
Maybe beauty pageants are a dumbass tradition from the 20th century and no one should miss them when they do go away.
Let's judge them on their eligibility for membership on shows such as The View. I know I won't be watching, but I wish them the best of luck
Women have a natural propensity to want to be beautiful. Always have, always will. Us guys like to race cars, women like to race beauty. There's nothing intuitively wrong with either.
Well, now we'll find out if men were telling the truth when they told their wives they watched the Miss America contest mainly for the talent portion.
I read something years ago that the most beautiful women were average or normal, meaning their eyes were the normal distance apart, their noses were average size and angle, their lips were the average distance from their nose and had the average width, etc. ad nauseum. It made sense to me at the time and it still does. The focus of the article was on their faces. I really should quit calling my girlfriend lard ass.
They mostly tend to primp and groom competitively so they can give other less attractive women a big case of envy, turn anorexic, make them start cutting themselves, or have major depression. There is a really vicious side to beauty pageants in general. Isn't it enough that they have all the great advantages of beauty without rubbing the faces of those less fortunate in it? No, away with these horrible pageants. Especially the child pageants which are the most grotesque of all.
I agree with you here 2Comm. Most people will say something like your daughter is cute or adorable or pretty, depending on their age. Yes, the focus is on appearance. My biggest compliment will be: you have a polite, well-behaved daughter or son. But only if they are.
It is a more worthy, more socially oriented behavioral goal than this constant obsession with personal appearance and youth. Most of it is driven by the youth-oriented advertising market. It's not just culture, it's economic as well. What is supposed to be so wrong with judging people by their character and intelligence and job performance instead of superficial and often-temporary qualities of youth and beauty? As a culture, we value youth and beauty over many other more important qualities, to the detriment of society.

I've heard that as well, long ago. If you create a composite woman with average everything, then she'd be quite stunning. At least in a generic type of way... if that's not a contradiction. I do think some women with a set of unique but complimentary characteristics can be beautiful. Though not to this extreme....

Well that's an allegation and one that may be true in some cases but not in others. But it's hardly the only contest in life that can make non-winners feel bad, and in any other competitive context, is it not the conservative sentiment that winners deserve awards and giving everyone a prize is defeats the productive, competitive spirit? Again, any beauty pageant winner with such an arrogant sentiment would be, on it's face, unfit for the crown as it would go against the other qualities they have claimed to have looked for. Beauties who have bitchy hearts would/should be rejected for the crown. Or so they would claim, at least. You used the word "obsessed" in another post to refer to what some women are in regards to their appearance. I agree if it reaches that point, it's a problem, but no less so than a guy might be about his car that pours tons of money into and waxes once a week. And on the other extreme, some people take a strong sense of offense because they pay too much attention to the subject of a woman's physical beauty. There is a psychological aspect of that where what they really take offense at is not a woman wanting to be beautiful, but (in the case of a man) his own human sexual desire for such a woman. But rather than deal with his own humanity, he instead projects blame for what he feels on the woman. And that's wrong. But perhaps the reason why Sheria law Muslims want women completely covered, and perhaps why, paradoxically, they also see heaven as a place where they get 72 virgins to have sex with.
I think the judges should either be certified blind or forced to wear blindfolds. You can't be too safe.

I agree with you here 2Comm. Most people will say something like your daughter is cute or adorable or pretty, depending on their age. I agree with both of you on this. Besides,it's pointless. When was the last time you saw a toddler that wasn't almost unbearably cute? We are hard-wired to think of children as adorable in order to make sure we feed and protect them so future generations are possible. Or at least most of us are. Some people see them as sexual objects,which is one reason we are by nature hard-wired to find them adorable and want to protect them. If I catch someone molesting or harming a child,they are in a HEAP of bleeping trouble,and I don't care whose child it is or who they are. I suspect most of you feel the same way. This is the big reason I could never be a cop. I considered it right after getting out of the army,but I knew there was practically zero chance of any child molester/murderer I arrested making it to lockup in original condition,or even still breathing without whimpering. If you can't do the job the way it is supposed to be done,you have no right to collect the money.

You can't judge pre-teens by those standards because they are not fully-formed humans yet. They are "humans in training" and it is up to all of us to train them by word as well as example.
