Title: Ronald Reagan’s daughter: Father would be ‘appalled’ by Trump presidency

Ronald Reagan’s daughter in a new op-ed writes that her father would be “appalled” by President Trump's presidency.

Patti Davis reflects on her father’s “love for America” in The Washington Post ahead of the anniversary of his death, and what he would think of the nation today.

“He would be appalled and heartbroken at a Congress that refuses to stand up to a president who not only seems ignorant of the Constitution but who also attempts at every turn to dismantle and mock our system of checks and balances,” Davis wrote.

She also said that her father would call on Americans “to recognize that the caustic, destructive language emanating from our current president is sullying the dream that America once was.”

And Davis, who frequently criticized her father's policies, said Reagan would condemn Trump’s frequent attacks on the press.

“He didn’t always like the press — no president does — but the idea of relentlessly attacking the media as the enemy would never have occurred to him," she wrote. "And if someone else had done so, he wouldn’t have tolerated it.”

She also knocked Trump over his administration's crackdown on immigration.

"There is a difference between immigration laws and cruelty," Davis wrote. "He believed in laws; he hated cruelty."

Trump has said that Reagan was his favorite president during his lifetime, and has shared old photos of him with the leader.

Reagan died on June 5, 2004 after a decade-long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Same tune sung by Ronald Junior. That little fruit is still around badmouthing the GOP too. This is how the Reagan kids still get attention.

Only Michael, the adopted kid, actually had much in common with his father.

“He would be appalled and heartbroken at a Congress that refuses to stand up to a president who not only seems ignorant of the Constitution but who also attempts at every turn to dismantle and mock our system of checks and balances,” Davis wrote.

I think Ronnie would cheer for Trump. Reagan was often frustrated by Congress.

Reagan was often frustrated by Congress.

I remember when Reagan was swiftly declining, Michael made the remark, "He doesn't remember much anymore, but he remembers that Congress never gave him the spending cuts they promised."
