United States President Donald Trump joined Americans in paying tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives while serving in the military services. However, the president's twitter wishes did not go very well with the war veterans and sparked an outcry on social media.

Donald Trump tweeted stating that dead veterans would be happy and proud "at how well our country is doing today".

Trump wrote, "Happy Memorial Day! Those who died for our great country would be very happy and proud at how well our country is doing today. Best economy in decades, lowest unemployment numbers for Blacks and Hispanics EVER (& women in 18years), rebuilding our Military and so much more. Nice!"

The veterans slammed the president and called his tweet the "most inappropriate" memorial day comment ever made by an American president.

"This is the most inappropriate #MemorialDay comment that a @POTUS has ever made. Self-promotion on a day to remember the fallen, and wishing those remembering their deceased loved ones a “happy” holiday is appalling. #CadetBoneSpurs," noted a group of war veterans.

The group was also furious at the Republican Party's effort to raise funds on Memorial Day by offering a 25 per cent discount on official Trump campaign merchandise.

"Really @GOP? You think this is what’s #MemorialDay is all about. Maybe you can #TakeAKnee and remember the fallen", the group tweeted in response to the Republican party's Memorial Day deal.

Several others, including family members of soldiers and veterans, expressed their anger on Twitter.

The Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States which is observed to remember American martyrs.

It's not "The Memorial Day". It's "Memorial Day"

Also, a martyr is one who voluntarily suffers death. Our servicemen and women may have voluntarily served, but I can assure you they did not voluntarily die.

This was from a foreign paper, Hong Kong IIRC.

How about that Trump - using dead war veterans to toot his own horn.

What a class act!

You still don't get it.

  1. Trump is the Troll King.
  2. Everything he says on Twitter is just more trolling. All of it.
  3. People who supported Trump don't care at all what he says or what he tweets.

So: go pound sand, soy-boy.

This is all true, except for the third part.

I've always been able to distinguish when Trump was really talking to me and telling me what he thought, and when he was trolling, intentionally to ridicule his adversaries and make fun of them, causing them to have conniptions and behave ridiculously.

It just isn't at all hard to tell the difference.

Example: Trump absolutely intends to build a Wall, and he's going to exact a political penalty from those who stand in his way. He has heard the arguments against it, he thinks they are bullshit, and he's going to have his Wall.

What is more, he knows that he got elected in large part BECAUSE of that Wall, and he knows that all of the people who oppose it have been his enemies since the beginning - and are unrelenting - so he no REASON to compromise on it. He can't win them, but he could lose me. And he's not going to do that because HE and I both believe in that Wall, and all of us who do already KNOW we're smarter than the whining weenies who make all of the stupid arguments they make against it.

They don't want a Wall EITHER because they WANT those illegals to give them cheap labor or a future minority, or because they are weak minded cowards who have been cowed by the vocal political objections of those who oppose it.

It's a zero sum game, we know that - Trump and me and all of the rest of us who support that Wall.

We know who the Republicans are who oppose it, and Trump, and us, and we like it when Trump publicly kicks them in the balls and makes it harder for them to survive in the party, gets them primaried. We're not here to negotiate, we're here to rule - so, John, either get in line or go fucking die, and Lindsey, you faggot, shut up and get in line, or drag your weak chin and stretched ass back to South Carolina.

It's simple. It's playing for keeps. It's nasty. And we're tired of playing nice.

Well, Trump is actually trying to fulfill his campaign promises. I'm sure the professional pols in the Beltway are aghast at this crude ruffian who actually intends to do the things he promised the voters he would do. The noive! What a maroon!

No one ever mentions it but I am quite sure that Trump believes that the voters gave his political campaign a mandate to accomplish some specific things.

Everyone somehow operates as though Trump never campaigned on these issues. But he certainly did. Over and over, rally after rally. His scripts did not vary all that much from venue to venue. People knew what he stood for.

Anyway, I think they never mention any notion of Trump's mandate to govern because they don't want to legitimize anything that he does. So there is no Trump mandate to enact policy if the libmedia simply refuse to ever mention the idea of whether Trump had a governing mandate from the people.
