Mad World News

Netflix announced this week that the company had hired Barack and Michelle Obama to produce shows and films as part of a multi-year deal. Well, it didn’t take long for the streaming service to learn the hard way that the move to bring the Obamas on board was a disastrous mistake.   Former First Lady Michelle Obama and former President Barack Obama

Barack and Michelle Obama have entered a multiyear agreement to produce new films and shows with Netflix. The former president and first lady are “determined to produce a diverse mix of content, including a potential scripted series, an unscripted series, a docu-series, documentaries, and features,” according to a press release from Netflix about the deal.

According to Fox News, the streaming service revealed the projects will be available to their 125 million members in 190 countries and the couple established Higher Ground Productions, which will serve as the entity under which they will produce content for Netflix.

“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience,” Mr. Obama in a statement. “That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix — we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”

Michelle said the couple’s willingness to pursue filming after their time in the White House was a no-brainer. “Barack and I have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire us, to make us think differently about the world around us, and to help us open our minds and hearts to others,” she said. “Netflix’s unparalleled service is a natural fit for the kinds of stories we want to share, and we look forward to starting this exciting new partnership.”

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said the streaming service is thrilled to have the Obamas as part of their creative team and are eager to see what the couple has to offer for viewers. “Barack and Michelle Obama are among the world’s most respected and highly-recognized public figures and are uniquely positioned to discover and highlight stories of people who make a difference in their communities and strive to change the world for the better,” explained Sarandos. “We are incredibly proud they have chosen to make Netflix the home for their formidable storytelling abilities.”

However, within hours of this announcement, fed-up Americans who are tired of being bombarded by the Obamas at every turn had taken to social media to launch a boycott of Netflix.

The American people are sick and tired of the Obamas at this point. We were forced to put up with them for eight long years while they inhabited the White House. Now, we’d just like them to go away, thank you very much.

It isn’t typical for a former president and first lady to try so desperately to stay in the spotlight even after they leave the White House. We almost never hear from the Carters or the Bushes — unless they are doing some sort of bipartisan charity work. The Obamas, on the other hand, have seemingly been clamoring for every new photo-op and paycheck they can get their hands on since they were booted from the People’s House upon Trump’s inauguration.

While Netflix didn’t say exactly how much they will be paying the Obamas, we’re guessing it’s more than the company will be able to sustain after losing a substantial portion of their membership. (1 image)

Well, boycotts usually fail. So maybe Netflix won't be all that shook up. Look at the status of the NFL boycott. And Netflix might, even if 0bama causes more boycotters than they're worth, still think that it is worth doing so they can promote crappy 0bamaShows to blacks/Hispanics/Lefties, a way for Netflix to differentiate itself from the other streamers like YouBoob/Hulu/Amazon and try to lock up the minorities as subscribers.

Boycott? How about just not watching? Netflix keeps track of viewers, so they'll get the message.

I agree, but I'm sure Netflix had their reasons, and those reasons may go beyond simple ratings.

Netflix has too much good programming for me to cancel. Like many others I'm sure, I won't be watching the Obamas -- 8 years was enough.

It isn't that good.

And there are plenty of ways to get that content without Netflix.

Between Hulu and Netflix I get irritated by the pure promotion of the black (equal is only fair so must make white channels to be fair) and LGBTQ. The LGBTQ or whatever add up to 1% of the population so why should they be a drop in the bucket? As for black shows why not have white shows to counter them since white people are much bigger group and if you really think about the Hispanic groups are many multiples of the black population so they should be represented even higher than blacks.

BTW in the end this is identity socialist politics being forced into business which is to break society up and bring it down. Regressives wetdream.

Yeah, you're right. Game of Thrones and House of Cards really sucked.

I have them but didn't get them from Netflix.

Besides, GoT is an HBO property so you're getting late sloppy seconds if you watch it on Netflix. HoC is cancelled. Notice they took a more classic approach to killing off the SS bodyguard who was in a threesome with Frank & Claire Underwood. And Frank's gaiety emerged with that college reunion show too though I don't recall the details of that because it was such a boring episode and I think I only half-watched it.

Yes...but that wuz before the Big Announcement that Mr. & Mrs. Zero will be inflicting their Leftist Programming Agenda upon Netflix.

From what I'm seeing, the Left is now pushing the panic button. They are breaking out all their media/entertainment Big Guns in hope of stemming the electoral Red Tide and break away from the Dem Plantation. Will it work?

Yup. It's nothing but propaganda and SJW PsyOps masquerading as "entertainment.

The God-less and top-heavy homos who run Hollywood are attempting to up-end tradition itself by reversing morality-plays, Good-prevails-over-Evil, white male "heroes", and...nature itself. Toss in useless Bollywood, Asian, and various foreign films and HULU and NETFLIX become Dumpster-Diving fare.

THE casualties must now always be virile white males. And obviously, traditional Male-female relationships and roles.

3000 people per hour were cancelling Netflix. I read yesterday that their stock went down by 2 1/2 %. Sorry, but boycotts work if you can get numbers involved. See ESPN and Target, etc.

United, we have great the power to make them pay for their idiotic social warrior bs. And they should pay a price. Barrack Obama is running a deep state government and national security group, all trying to take out President Trump. That is outright treason.

Lil Davie, the 25 year old Parkland student (lol) won't be getting the $1 million he tried to extort from Publix.

I LOL when I watch shoppers just ignoring them laying on the floor and kept shopping.

Maybe it helps, maybe not.

ABC just cancelled Roseanne and that will likely cost them $100M. They had already sold ads for the next season, some of the highest paid cast members like John Goodman were signed up for $350K/episode or more and they will have to be paid for those contracts.

As with the NFL, you can damage them quite a bit with boycotts but they may just decide to tough it out. On the whole, it is safer to bet that a boycott will fizzle than that it will force you to alter your business practice.

Publix is not going to get hurt anywhere close to what Dick's will for their gun sellout. Publix is stopping all political donations and a fair amount of those were issued to buy off Dems as well as GOPs. Dick's actually hired known gungrabber lobbyists to attack the Second (by trying to stop their competitors from capitalizing on their self-inflicted gun sales policy).

Netflix is really huge as a media company and streaming company. Maybe if you forced their stock down 10%, you could force them to kowtow. But anything less than 5%, they would be wise to ignore simply because they don't want to encourage boycotters to think that they can pressure the company into policies they don't want.
