Well, it happened, it only took a few hours for North Korea to freak out that Trump had called their bluff, and they’re begging to come back to the table.
BREAKING: North Korea says it is still willing to sit down for talks with the US 'at any time'.— The Associated Press (@AP) May 24, 2018

This is an unmitigated win for Trump. Now when he goes to the meeting, he’ll have the upper hand, and will be able to negotiate from a position of strength. That’s the way it is.

I thought they might cave after reading this reaction to Trump’s announcement:
.@willripleyCNN on phone from north korea now. says he was the first person to read to the north korean officials he was with trump's letter. they had all just been together seeing a nuclear site dismantled.

he said they were in shocked, got up, left and are all on the phone.— kelly cohen (@politiCOHEN_) May 24, 2018

They were bluffing. They were bluffing the whole time. And Trump called them on it.

Here’s more:
News Alert: North Korea says @POTUS' decision to scrap the summit is not in line with the world's wishes and it is willing to resolve issues with the U.S., according to North Korean state-run media. #SpecialReport pic.twitter.com/eSFCIjH2sE— Fox News (@FoxNews) May 24, 2018

Here’s the statement from North Korea:
Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye-gwan issued a statement carried by the North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). It came hours after Trump announced the surprise decision to withdraw from his summit with Kim Jong-un set for June 12.

“We express our willingness to sit down face-to-face with the U.S. and resolve issues anytime and in any format,” he said in the statement.

Kim said the U.S.’ decision to cancel the upcoming talks demonstrates how serious the animosity between the North and the U.S. remains, which he said underlines the urgent need of a summit between the leaders of the two countries.

He said that the North Korean leader has made all-out efforts to prepare for the summit with the U.S., saying his meeting with Trump will serve as a good start.

“Despite all of this, the U.S.’ unilateral decision to scrap the talks causes us to reconsider whether all of the efforts and the path we have taken is really the right one or not,” he said.

Kim said that the North remains open to talks with the U.S.

“Our commitment to doing our best for the sake of peace and stability for the world and the Korean Peninsula remains unchanged, and we are open-minded in giving time and opportunity to the U.S.,” he said.

MmmHmmm. CAVED!!!

We need a better perspective on this. The North had already shown its willingness to talk, now if the minor and self important officials on both sides can stay out of it and allow the leaders to talk there might be progress.

Trump will meet the Norks on his terms.

The Norks were starting their usual squirelly games prior to talks with the West. Trump cut them off at the ankles and they came crawling back.

Those sanctions are hurting Kim real bad and China isn't willing to prop him up any more. Trump has a squeeze play going on here.

The best part is the MSM doesn't know how to react ...

Trump needs to defuse the situation with North Korea and use diplomacy. Uh, meeting with them is a terrible idea. No, the cancellation of the meeting was a terrible idea. Wait … … no … it was a good idea … uh, the meeting is a terrible idea … unless it works. Then it's a good idea.

Ah, screw it. We'll simply report that Trump more indecisive than we are. That'll work.

Yeah, Trump's offer gave Kim's generals the opportunity they had been waiting for to speak up.

But our references to Libya are not helpful and have got to stop.

In the entire history of the world, the only nations that had to build walls to keep their own citizens from leaving were those with leftist governments.
