New Poll Shows GOP Now Leads In 2018 Generic Ballot

In a new Reuters poll, more people said they would vote for a Republican candidate over a Democrat in the upcoming midterm election, a reversal of previous trends.

Of the 1,139 people surveyed earlier this month, 40.4 percent said they would vote for a Republican in their district in November, up from 32.4 percent of those who were surveyed in December 2017. Only 34.5 percent of respondents said they planned to vote for a Democrat in their district in the upcoming election, down from 45.5 percent in December.

The Real Clear Politics poll average, which has not yet incorporated the latest data from this weekly Reuters poll, shows that Democrats have a four-point lead over Republicans. This lead is a significant drop from the 12.9 lead Democrats held at the beginning of January.

Dwindling Democratic support comes amid widespread talk of a “Blue Wave,” the expectation that Democrats will win back the House of Representatives and possibly the Senate in November. You can track the swelling Republican support and dwindling Democratic support as tracked by Reuters, here.

I think I might know 'cause I was reading about it at AoS.

Job Market Optimism Now At Highest Level Ever Recorded

—Ace of Spades

Cowbell.
The average American is more optimistic about their ability to find a job under the Trump administration than at any point previously recorded, according to a new poll.

Data released by Gallup on Monday showed 67 percent of Americans believe now is a "good time" to find a quality job. The results were buoyed across gender lines, with 71 percent of males and 59 percent of females decidedly optimistic about the job market.

The data stretched across all age, income, and education groups...

The numbers under President Trump stand in stark contrast to his predecessors. Prior to January of 2017, the number of respondents optimistic about the job market never inched above 50 percent. The poll also found that total optimism about the "availability of good jobs" has increased by 25 percentage points since November 2016.

Meanwhile, per PJMedia, a CBS poll says that 68% of the public gives Trump credit for the economy, with 35% saying he had a "great deal" of responsibility for the good economy, and another 33% saying he's "somewhat" responsible.

Oh, and for the sixth year in a row, the United States was the world's largest producer of fossil fuels.

It's important to remember that stored energy is a substitute for human labor. So the more energy we have, the more machines we can make run, and the more work we do as a species, resulting in more wealth for the human species to share and compete for.

Time is money. Energy is also money.

Whoops, what happened to that "Blue Wave?"

We also see some real-world results, including a few victories in Dem primaries by unelectable socialist types in barely Purple districts.

Republican Prospects Improve in Four Congressional Districts

Republican prospects to retain control of Congress in 2018 are looking up, according to new race ratings from the Cook Political Report on Tuesday.

Over the past year, Cook and similar race predictors have consistently moved seats toward Democratic challengers. But it appears that run is over and the pendulum is swinging back toward the GOP.

Problems with Democratic candidates motivated most of the moves.

CA-39 Lean D to Toss Up: In California’s 39th Congressional District, the top Democratic candidate was recently accused of trying to extort sex from an assemblywoman in exchange for his endorsement.

CA-49 Lean D to Toss Up: Cook reports that national Democrats are worried that a divided Democratic field will prevent any Democrats from advancing from the jungle primary to the general election.

NE-02 Toss Up to Lean R: Democratic hopes to take a seat in deep red Nebraska took a hit when far-left Kara Eastman beat out the establishment pick to take on Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE).

SC-05 Likely R to Solid R: The media fawned over Democrat Archie Parnell’s campaign in the district’s 2017 special election, but domestic abuse allegations against Parnell seem to guarantee that Republicans will keep the seat.

The primaries in Arkansas, Georgia and Kentucky are today as are the runoffs there in Texas. We'll know more about how the race is shaping up tomorrow. If the BernieBros are winning against the Xlintonista Dem candidates, things look worse and worse for the Dems.

Dem fundraising at the DNC is now at its worst since 2006. Before we find that too comforting, recall the huge victory they won that year, grabbing the House and winning all six contested seats in the Senate, paving the way for their 2008 victory and 60-vote Senate majority.

With that, off to the polls for the few runoff candidates.
