The multi-million-dollar lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court says that "In the Trump campaign, Russia found a willing and active partner in this effort" to mount "a brazen attack on American Democracy." The suit says that "preexisting relationships with Russia and Russian oligarchs" with Trump and Trump associates "provided fertile ground for [the] Russia-Trump conspiracy." Evidence gathered by the DNC could be made public in court filings and at a trial -- in contrast to information obtained through Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe of Russian interference, which might not be publicly disclosed. Many of the allegations reflect conclusions of major U.S. intelligence agencies and comes from guilty pleas and legal filings by Mueller, who is investigating links between Russia and the Trump campaign. My own expectation is that the two sides of the American polity are going to so enrage each other that we will end up in a shooting civil war that will burn down the country and slaughter the losing side. Then we'll have political peace, of a sort, for a few decades, because the ranks of the opposition will have been thinned, through death. The hatred is flowing strong now, and getting stronger and stronger. Sooner or later, things are bound to explode spectacularly. I don't know that it'll come to a shooting war (but I do think it will break rather than be repaired), but if your scenario comes to pass, just remember which side believes that "Gun-Free Zone!" paper signs are some sort of protection, and which side hauls hardware to the range every now and then. I remember tossing my (closed, of course) Swiss Army pocketknife to my niece's boyfriend a couple years ago and watching the 20-something Pajama Boy pussy recoil in terror, letting it fall to the floor rather than catching it.
