This is where we’re at in America: a 13-year-old boy who drew a stick figure holding a gun and another holding two knives was suspended from his North Carolina middle school. James Herring, the boy’s father, said he can’t believe his son received a two-day suspension earlier this month for what he calls a harmless picture. But statists would disagree. They are probably thanking the government for saving them from that piece of paper. This is the kind of effect the fear-mongering in the mainstream media has on everyone. School officials were so terrified of a piece of paper with a drawing on it that the artist received a suspension for it. “[He’s] just expressing himself, nothing violent,” Herring told WRAL. “I drew pictures like this…any other person of his age drew pictures like this. It’s nothing to get expelled from school for.” Herring made sure to add that their family enjoys hunting and that all of the guns in his home are kept under lock and key. Though the seventh-grader has returned to Roseboro-Salemburg Middle School, his father is wondering what type of message the school system is trying to send by suspending his son. “Due to everything happening in the nation, we’re just being extra vigilant about all issues of safety,” said Sampson County Schools’ Superintendent Eric Bracy. The superintendent didn’t share any details about the boy’s suspension but told WRAL that punishments for a variety of offenses are outlined in the student handbook. It was definitely an overreaction by the school as many kids hunt, fish, or shoot BB guns safely when not at school. But everyone is so overly frightened by every little thing anymore that it’s difficult to actually find a rational response to most of these incidents.

He obviously has no "assault rifles" since his son thinks the magazines are inserted backwards. Almost all rifle-caliber cartridges are wider at the base than they are at the bullet. The magazine that holds them is curved to accommodate this.
